Hello everyone, I'm Arata Tomori. The rainy season has begun. I wasn't particularly looking forward to it, but it seems that in the Kanto region this year, the arrival of the rainy season has been delayed, and temperatures are rising more than usual. When we think of the rainy season, it's usually cooler, but this year it's humid and muggy instead. Don't many of you experience health issues during the rainy season? I too tend to feel unwell during this period, but today I'd like to discuss the causes and solutions. Since ancient times, it's been said that weather and health are closely related. You've probably heard things like "the pain in my knee gets worse when the weather is bad" or "I feel unwell when it's cloudy." There are three main causes: atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. These factors intertwine to create various health problems. In particular, changes in atmospheric pressure are now called "weather-related illness," and some people experience headaches when low pressure systems approach. Humans have sensors in the inner ear that detect atmospheric pressure. These sensors transmit pressure changes to our autonomic nervous system for adjustment. However, modern people already have disrupted autonomic nervous systems, making them more susceptible to health problems from atmospheric pressure changes. Specifically, modern people are constantly under stress. For example, being in bright environments stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. Computer use and other activities keep the sympathetic nervous system activated. This leads to elevated blood pressure and insomnia. Another factor is temperature fluctuations. Even if this year doesn't have extreme swings, a 7-degree difference within a day can disrupt the autonomic nervous system, causing fatigue and lethargy. And then there's humidity. Sweat doesn't evaporate easily, water accumulates in the body, causing swelling and headaches. Modern people already have disrupted autonomic nervous systems, and these factors—pressure, temperature, and humidity—further disrupt it, creating various health problems during the rainy season. The rainy season is challenging for everyone, not just me. Since we need to get through this period, we should focus on diet and lifestyle habits. First, for lifestyle habits, maintaining a consistent sleep-wake cycle is important. As I mentioned, when the sympathetic nervous system dominates, we develop sleep deprivation, which further disrupts the autonomic cycle. So we should go to bed at a fixed time and work backward to determine the wake-up time. Maintaining a consistent daily pattern is crucial. Another point is to brighten indoor spaces and go outside when there's sunlight. During the rainy season, reduced sunlight decreases serotonin production—the happiness hormone that prevents irritability and promotes well-being. Moreover, serotonin converts to melatonin at night, which induces sleep. By getting sunlight exposure in the morning, we create serotonin, which naturally makes us sleepy at night. When we sleep well, our autonomic nervous system stabilizes. So it's very important to get sunlight when possible and exposure to light in the morning. Taking warm baths is also important as warm water activates the parasympathetic nervous system and promotes sleep. Another factor is humidity management. When humidity rises, rheumatoid arthritis patients experience joint pain. We know humidity damages the body, so ignoring it isn't wise. Optimal humidity is 40-60%. Above 60%, even non-rheumatoid people experience increased mold growth and allergies. So proper humidity control is important for health. Nutrition is also vital. Vitamin B1 aids fatigue recovery and energy production. During the rainy season, taking B1 from pork and brown rice is beneficial. Allicin from garlic, onions, and chives is also helpful. Stir-frying pork with chives provides both allicin and B1. When stress hormones increase, vitamin C is essential as it aids the synthesis of adrenal cortical hormones. Get vitamin C from broccoli, paprika, and lemon. For swelling prevention, take potassium from bananas and corn to expel excess water. In summary, modern people already have disrupted autonomic nervous systems. Combined with atmospheric pressure, temperature fluctuations, and humidity, the rainy season becomes particularly challenging. Recognize this as normal and don't become discouraged. Manage your diet and lifestyle to get through this period. If it becomes too difficult, consult a psychiatrist or physician. Thank you for watching today's content. Let's all get through the rainy season together. Thank you for watching until the end. See you in the next video. Goodbye.
