Hello everyone! This is Tomoni Shinda! So, Noiri-kun, you have a question for today, right? Yes, it's not something that's really going viral, but on social media there's a trend saying that layering skincare is good—like using two toners together, or two milky lotions together. Using two different products with different effects for the same category. So you mean like layering Elixir and Lancôme together? Or layering BA too? I haven't seen three at once, but... Oh, two? Yes, like two. As for serums, if there are multiple concerns—layering Elixir, whitening serum, wrinkle serum—some people say that's good, but I wonder if it actually is. Hmm, that's tricky. It's not that layering is bad per se, but layering too much doesn't really make sense. Obviously, the skin absorbs the first thing applied the most. So if you layer too much, the last thing you apply won't really do much. But for example, if you layer Elixir to boost firmness and Genefique for repair power—since they're completely different products—if you use two toners, I think one serum is enough. If you go up to two or three serums, and two or three milky lotions too, it becomes too much. If you're layering two of something, for the following step, especially anything oil-based, you should stick to just one. Same with serums—maybe just whitening. Otherwise, ingredients might clash, but more than causing an actual reaction, it just ends up being pointless. Can ingredients actually clash? Well, for example, Melano CC and Dr. Ceuticals' VCE—both contain vitamin C derivatives, but one is APPS, which penetrates deeper even though it's still vitamin C. So even though they're both vitamin C, they're a bit different, so I don't think layering them is necessarily bad, and it's not really "clashing" in a bad way. But if you apply that and then a whitening serum afterward, normally your skin would absorb say 100%, but by the time you use two serums, half of that capacity is already used up. So it feels like your skin gets "full," and I'd recommend finishing with either a cream or a milky lotion, not both. There's still some chance of irritation, right? Cosmetics are generally very safe, but layering many things can cause irritation. Even if a beauty product alone wouldn't cause irritation, having too many ingredients together does carry some risk of irritation. So people on social media saying it's fine probably just have very strong skin. If you're going to do it, I wouldn't recommend layering two of everything—toner, milky lotion, serum, cream. If you really want to layer milky lotion and cream, applying a lot of everything else can make your skin get "waterlogged," so be careful. I think especially people with sensitive skin should keep things simple. I also use two toners since there are so many great ones out there. I see. For serums, I also use them in specific areas—like retinol on the forehead, something else under the eyes, Neal's Yard One on smile lines, that kind of thing. But for a whitening serum applied to the whole face, I stick to just one. If you use too many and your skin condition doesn't improve, or you feel like something's off, that could mean the layering is causing irritation. If your skin is doing fine, that's okay, but if it's not fine and you keep doing it anyway, that's definitely not good. I see. Is there something like the "don't mix" warnings you see on cleaning products? With cosmetics, it's not quite like that. It's more about how you use them. In particular, if you splash on a lot of toner, ingredients like retinol can open up the skin's barrier function, leading to unexpected absorption. Or if you apply other ingredients on top of an oil-rich milky lotion, absorption can increase in unintended ways. So there are many things to consider. Products are usually designed with the assumption of toner, milky lotion, serum, cream in that order. If you're really worried, this year there are some excellent skincare lines, so using a full line from one brand is an option. Also, after beauty treatments, I wouldn't recommend layering products. Right. During beauty treatments, the skin is often inflamed to some degree, making it more prone to trouble. Layering many products at that time increases the risk. So during treatments—lasers, injections, whether they're invasive or non-invasive—that's exactly when you should switch to simpler care. Off topic, but when doing the usual routine—toner, then serum, then milky lotion—how long should you wait after applying toner? It's better to wait until it's absorbed. If it's still sitting on the surface, it can get diluted. I think it's fine once it feels like it's absorbed to some degree. But if you use too much, it can leave residue, and if you use too little, it can weaken the absorption of the next product. Interestingly, people often check the ingredients of cosmetics but don't pay attention to how much to use or the amount. I think it's best to follow the recommended amount stated on the product. And as long as you follow that, there's no residue left on the skin? In that case, I don't think there's an issue with applying the next product too soon or waiting too long—amount is the more important factor. I see, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I understand the desire to layer because there are so many great ingredients out there, but please choose carefully. Overdoing it can actually risk damaging your skin, so it's important to consult with your own skin's condition. Alright, that should cover it. Not just me explaining things like this, but I'd love for Noiri-kun to keep finding questions on social media, and for us to pick up questions from viewers too, so we can explain them like this. If you have any questions or topics you'd like us to dive deeper into, please leave a comment. So, thank you again today, Noiri-kun. Thank you. See everyone in the next video! Goodbye.
