Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori. Today I have an important announcement for everyone. A new line is being released from Medi Skin, the baby skincare brand I run. "Wait, you have a baby skincare brand?" some of you might be thinking, but Medi Skin was actually launched 12 years ago, long before I started YouTube, when I was pregnant with my son. As a dermatologist, I knew firsthand that moisturizing is just as important as cleansing, so I wanted a baby skincare brand I could safely use for my son, and that's how I started Medi Skin. I began prototyping while I was still pregnant, and at the time I wrote about the process on my blog, so people reading it resonated with the journey. Since it was 12 years ago, ingredients were limited, but I believe babies only need the minimum essentials, so Medi Skin Baby was created by including only what's truly necessary. After that, my son grew up, and my younger child was born, which led to the creation of Medi Skin Kids. I've always believed both Baby and Kids should have simple care, so I've kept things unchanged for 12 years. However, ideas about skincare and available ingredients have evolved. A baby's skin changes dramatically depending on their age in months. Up until 3 months, hormones affect the skin, making it somewhat oily. This can cause neonatal acne-like breakouts or oiliness, so while cleansing and moisturizing are still needed, you only need to add a little water at this stage. However, starting from month 4, dryness begins. From then until puberty, when sex hormones start being secreted, sebum secretion is basically low. Since the turnover cycle is also still immature, the combination of low moisture and low sebum can weaken the skin's barrier function, leading to redness from external irritants, infant eczema, and it's said this may even contribute to food allergies. That's why moisturizing is truly essential in baby skincare. But as I mentioned, how much water or oil to add changes depending on the baby's age in months, so Medi Skin Baby was designed with separate roles—lotion for water and balm for oil. Even now we have many loyal customers, including some who say they still use it even as their children reach elementary school age, and I have no intention of changing the core formulation. So this isn't a renewal of the Baby line—what we're releasing this time is a new line called Baby Plus. The reason we created Baby Plus is that Japan stretches from north to south. So a baby born in Tohoku and a baby born in Okinawa experience different levels of dryness. Just as the right amount of water or oil to use varies by age in months, it can also vary depending on environment, and this can be confusing to figure out. Also, since the turnover cycle is still immature and sebum secretion is weak, I wanted to add ingredients that could support and encourage this process. Among the many ingredients I researched over these 12 years, the ones I felt were ideal were Rice Power No. 11, which helps regulate turnover, and Rice Power No. 7, which helps regulate sebum secretion. These are great for adult skincare too, but I thought they'd be especially suited for babies whose sebum production is still insufficient. So this time, we developed Medi Skin Plus, incorporating Rice Power No. 7 into the lotion and Rice Power No. 11 into the cream. Babies have an immature turnover cycle until around age 1 or 2, so proper skincare is essential during this time. Rice Power No. 11, which helps regulate turnover, and Rice Power No. 7, which supports sebum production, are important not just for babies but also for children before puberty, and I believe they're also wonderful for adults prone to dryness. I hope the whole family can use these products together. By the way, there's no fragrance added—it's completely unscented. When I first created Medi Skin 12 years ago, baby skincare wasn't getting much attention. I gave birth to my son in 2014, but I actually started developing Medi Skin around the time I found out I was pregnant, in 2013. While I was prototyping, shortly after I gave birth, a study came out suggesting that moisturizing might reduce the onset of atopic dermatitis. There's still ongoing debate about moisturizing—including concerns about over-moisturizing—but as a dermatologist, I firmly believe that maintaining barrier function is essential for everyone, from babies to adults. When turnover functions normally, the skin properly produces moisturizing factors and secretes natural sebum, which itself helps maintain barrier function. Skincare is meant to supplement what's lacking when this process isn't working well enough on its own. I develop products with the hope of helping achieve this, and I believe that maintaining barrier function is crucial across all ages—from newborns to kids, adults, and even grandparents. So I'd be truly happy if you gave Medi Skin a try. So that's it for today—I think this might be the first time I've talked about Medi Skin, which I've developed with so much heartfelt care, here on YouTube. Talking about my own work like this does bring up some mixed feelings, but I hope you'll check out Medi Skin if you're interested. Thank you so much for watching until the end today. See you in the next video—bye! [Please subscribe to the channel]
