Hello everyone, this is Nitta from Tomorokoshi. Today I'd like to introduce two new approaches to skincare for people with acne-prone skin, or those who have recently started getting breakouts more easily, so please watch until the end. When we think of acne, many of us picture it as a 'symbol of youth'—something we had when we were young but not so much anymore. However, over the past two or three years, with the pandemic requiring mask-wearing, many people have found that they're breaking out under their masks even though they never used to, or hadn't in a long time. Because of this, magazine interviews that used to focus on 'acne care for young people' have increasingly shifted to 'acne care for adults.' Many magazines and media outlets have also started running features on what they call 'mask skin,' referring to skin trouble caused by masks. This shows just how much mask-wearing has contributed to increased acne. As a result, while acne care used to focus mainly on removing excess sebum, brand new approaches have been emerging one after another, and today I want to introduce some of them. Before that, though, I want to make something very clear: acne is a skin condition. It cannot be cured by skincare alone. If you want to treat your acne, please make sure to see a dermatologist rather than relying solely on skincare. You should treat it under a dermatologist's care, and use the items I'll introduce today as supportive care alongside that treatment. Please keep in mind that skincare cannot cure acne on its own—treatment is necessary, and skincare is merely a support. So, the first product is FANCL's 'Acne Care' series. FANCL previously had an acne series, but it has now been renewed. FANCL is known for its sensitive-skin-friendly image, and this renewed Acne Care series is designed for people who have 'sensitive skin but still get acne.' At first glance, sensitive skin and acne might not seem related, but one mechanism behind acne, besides excess sebum production, is the thickening of the skin's stratum corneum (outer layer). When this layer thickens, it blocks the pore openings, trapping sebum inside, which allows acne bacteria to multiply. Actually, having 'unstable' or 'fluctuating' skin refers to instability in this stratum corneum condition. This instability comes from disrupted skin turnover, which can cause the stratum corneum to build up unevenly—thicker in some areas, thinner in others. This imbalance is what defines sensitive or fluctuating skin. Following this logic, even without particularly strong sebum production, if the stratum corneum is already thickened, wearing a mask can worsen this thickening due to friction. On top of that, wearing a mask tends to increase sebum production inside the mask. So people who already had sensitive or fluctuating skin now also experience increased sebum production due to mask-wearing, resulting in what's called 'mask acne.' This seems to be the focus of this new approach. So how do we address this fluctuating skin condition? FANCL discovered that a protein called CCN1 increases in unstable skin. When CCN1 increases, it decreases filaggrin, a protein essential for forming the stratum corneum. When filaggrin decreases, only immature skin cells are produced. The body then tries to compensate by producing even more cells, leading to thickening of the stratum corneum. In other words, instead of healthy cells, immature cells accumulate and block the pore openings. This is why people with fluctuating skin are more prone to acne—a discovery made by FANCL. By suppressing CCN1, it's possible to prevent this immature thickening of the stratum corneum, thereby reducing acne formation. After researching what could suppress CCN1, they found that sage extract has this effect, and it's now included in this renewed Acne series. Another interesting point is the inclusion of tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid is often associated with skin whitening, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties. I assumed it was included purely for that reason, but it turns out FANCL has a concept of not using preservatives or antibacterial agents at all. Apparently, common antibacterial agents can weaken or break down collagen to some extent. Tranexamic acid, on the other hand, can reduce inflammation without loosening collagen, which is why it was chosen to help calm acne-related inflammation. Hearing this, I thought, 'That's so FANCL.' Of course, being an acne care line, it also uses a non-comedogenic formula that won't cause acne. If you have sensitive skin but still struggle with breakouts, this FANCL Acne Care series might be worth trying. Next is ORBIS's 'Clear Fu' series. This ORBIS Clear Fu series has existed before as an acne care line, but it has now been renewed. ORBIS focuses on acne that tends to worsen before menstruation. It's already known that progesterone levels rise before menstruation, which increases sebum production and can worsen acne. What ORBIS discovered is that the skin has resident bacteria—some good, some bad. Acne bacteria are considered 'bad,' but there's a natural mechanism that prevents them from overgrowing: an antimicrobial peptide called HBD3, which suppresses the proliferation of acne bacteria. ORBIS found that HBD3 levels actually decrease before menstruation, allowing acne bacteria to multiply more easily. So, if HBD3 can be increased, it can help suppress the growth of acne bacteria. This is why licorice extract, which had already been included in this ORBIS acne series, was originally added. So, this series was already great for people whose acne worsens before their period, but with this renewal, vitamin C derivatives have been added, formulated to penetrate deeper into the skin. In addition, since dryness from mask-wearing has become more of a concern recently, moisturizing ingredients like collagen and mugwort extract have also been strengthened. In other words, thanks to this renewal, both the penetration technology and moisturizing ingredients have been significantly enhanced. The vitamin C derivative helps control inflammation and sebum production, while the licorice extract helps boost the antimicrobial peptide that suppresses acne bacteria before menstruation. For those who experience increased sebum production before their period, leading to 'inner-dry' skin and breakouts, I think this Clear Fu series would be a great option—that's why I wanted to introduce it. Since I started wearing a mask, I've actually broken out several times myself. Even just one pimple can really bring your mood down, right? So it's important to see a dermatologist for treatment when acne appears, and to switch to acne-specific skincare as support. If you're struggling with acne, I hope this video helps. So, how was it? On this channel, I explain topics related to beauty and health in an easy-to-understand way like this. If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to the channel—I'd really appreciate it. See you in the next video. Goodbye, and thank you for subscribing!
