Hey doctor, are you a bit tired? I'm so sleepy. You're sleepy? I don't think viewers realize this, but there have been so many retakes for the video we're filming today. What's a retake? A retake means reshooting something. Oh, that's a Japanese term you're using—so there are a lot of NGs? Well honestly, today it's hot, and that's making me tired, and somehow my eyes feel bloodshot and tired too. Are they bloodshot? Or not? They're big, my eyes. Even with something like this, I feel like my eyes are a bit bloodshot. What most people think of as "bloodshot" is probably completely red—like blood-red. If it's that bad, you should really go to the hospital. But when you're tired, your eyes get bloodshot too, and the whites look a bit cloudy. That cloudiness in the white of the eye can also come with yellowing, but it happens with mild bloodshot eyes from fatigue too. Have you ever used eye drops to reduce redness? Is there such a thing? Yes, exactly. In Japan, there wasn't really anything to reduce redness. About 10 years ago, I used to buy them overseas for filming and such. Using them would make your eyes really white. Amazing. What's in them is tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride, or naphazoline hydrochloride. These two ingredients are usually included. They work by constricting the arteries in the eye to reduce redness. They were only sold overseas, but recently you can buy them in Japan too. However, because they constrict the arteries—which carry nutrients—if you constrict them too much, you get what's called tachyphylaxis, basically a rebound effect. So they stop working. I used to use them only before filming, but an ophthalmologist friend told me not to use them too much because they'd become ineffective. So recently I've been trying not to use them. But quite a while back in America, a different ingredient from those two got patented—one that doesn't act on the arteries but on the veins instead. Human blood vessels include arteries and veins: arteries carry oxygen and nutrients, while veins carry blood that isn't as "good," and together they form a cycle of exchange. The two ingredients I mentioned earlier constrict the arteries, but this new ingredient constricts the veins instead, so nutrients still flow properly. That means the white of the eye looks clean and clear, but without the rebound effect—which became a huge topic in America. But that never made it to Japan... until I went to the pharmacy and found it being sold there, finally! This is actually my personal one. Is there really that much in it? Isn't it stylish? Stylish? It's not like the eye drops we're used to. Right, it changes the whole concept, doesn't it? Isn't that amazing? Amazing. At the pharmacy, you can't just grab it and say "give me this"—you have to actually talk with the pharmacist, since it's a designated product. So you can only buy it at a pharmacy where a pharmacist is present. As for what the active ingredient is, it's called brimonidine tartrate. That's a hard one. Buri-chan, Buri-chan. Buri-chan? Suddenly it feels affectionate. I actually bought one of these overseas myself before, and it really did get rid of the redness. It never came into Japan, but this time it's available—though I was worried if it's safe. So I looked into it, and apparently clinical trials were conducted on Japanese people too. The concentration is lower than the overseas version. Originally, brimonidine tartrate was used as a treatment for glaucoma, which causes elevated eye pressure, but when used in a much diluted form, it acts on the veins in the eye to eliminate redness. The percentage used overseas differs from the one used in Japan—they apparently determined the optimal percentage specifically for Japanese people. Isn't that amazing? Yeah, that's amazing. Some people let the bottle touch their eye, but you shouldn't do that—apply it from above. Okay, done. Let's wait a bit. The key is to hold still while waiting. Even though people think of "bloodshot" as completely red, many think they're not bloodshot when they actually are. There's also that slight yellowish tint, right? In my eyes too. It gets absorbed in about 5 minutes, they say. But why do you think eyes get bloodshot in the first place? Is it about blood? Right, that's why it's called "congestion." It happens from overusing your eyes staring at devices, or from applying makeup right up to the edge and blocking the oil glands, causing dryness, or from fatigue. Redness happens in these situations. Removing the redness isn't a fundamental solution, but look—doesn't it seem different between the left and right after applying it? Yeah, the left does look whiter. This one, right? This side looks more brownish, doesn't it? Yes, yes—oh, it's different, it's different! This is amazing. This is the one I just applied it to—can you tell the difference in clarity of the white part? Yeah, totally different. Right? Amazing. Earlier you said you didn't think I looked bloodshot, but I actually was. Yeah, looking at it now, the right side is indeed red. Right, this side is bloodshot, but this one is white, isn't it? Yeah, it's white. Everyone fails to notice their own redness. I see. But when you whiten the sclera and remove the redness, it makes this much of a difference. Also, people don't realize just how tired their eyes actually are. The fact that using brimonidine tartrate makes your eyes look this much clearer means there was hidden redness underneath—which means you're either tired or dehydrated. I know I'm tired myself, so I figure my eyes are probably bloodshot too, so today I'll use nutrient-rich eye drops, or moisturizing ones for dryness. But most people probably don't even notice they're bloodshot. So trying this once, just to check whether you're actually bloodshot or not, is worthwhile. And doesn't it change your impression once your eyes become clear? Yeah, it really does. The tone brightens, and it looks so much clearer. It's similar to laser treatments—once you remove the brown or black pigment, removing the redness afterward increases the sense of transparency even more. I think it's the same principle. This side isn't bad, but this one looks clearer, doesn't it? Yeah, way clearer. It's totally different now. As I mentioned earlier, brimonidine tartrate doesn't lose effectiveness over time. The first two ingredients I mentioned do become less effective, but this one acts on the veins, not the arteries, so you can use it with peace of mind. I looked into how long it lasts—it apparently peaks in effectiveness at 5 minutes and lasts about 3 to 4 hours. So you should wait 4 hours before using it again. One key point is that you can't use it while wearing contact lenses, so you should apply it before putting your contacts in, then wait 5 minutes before putting them on. Also, after using this, you can apparently still use other eye drops afterward, like ones for dry eyes, once 5 minutes have passed. It doesn't get diluted or anything. That's really great. Apply it before filming, then you can put in contacts afterward if you want. What I really want to convey through this is that I want people to become aware that their eyes are tired. Oh, I see. Being aware of it matters a lot. Even I was bloodshot here. Applying this properly changes things like this, and it delivers proper moisture too, so it makes you conscious of your eye health. And realizing that redness disappears after using this makes you think, "Oh, I must be dehydrated" or "I must be tired," which leads you to take better care of yourself. That's groundbreaking, I think. And there's really no negative aspect to it. I looked through a lot of the clinical data on the website. Since we're introducing it, it counts as a pharmaceutical product, right? Well, that's true. So I was a bit worried whether there might be risks, but looking at the data, they conducted clinical trials on 109 people. Since it was originally a glaucoma medication, one person did show a drop in eye pressure, but eye pressure naturally fluctuates throughout the day, and apparently it was within the margin of error. Oh, I see. Since no abnormalities were found, they went with this percentage—that's what was written. Just in case, they recommend that people with conditions like glaucoma consult a doctor, and that you should buy it where a pharmacist is present. I did try to find something negative about it, and found one thing: it's expensive. Insurance doesn't cover it, and they conducted the clinical trials completely from scratch. You might think that if it's approved in America, they'd just bring it over as-is, but that's not the case—Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare requires data to be collected specifically from Japanese people, which makes it expensive. But given how different the effect is, and how safe it is, if you want your sclera to look clear, it's worth trying at least once. And if you've been using redness-relief eye drops that seem to be losing their effectiveness over time, switching to this could give you peace of mind. I'd recommend going to a pharmacy and asking about it. I'm thinking of using this every time from now on. If you want to learn more, look up Myotia's Lumify, or search for brimonidine tartrate, and you should find it. Please check it out. But as I've said many times, this is a symptomatic treatment, so fundamentally the issue is tired eyes. So it's best to also use eye drops that prevent dryness and take other care, ideally reaching a point where you don't need this at all—but it's good to know this option exists just in case. So, I'm tired today too, let's head home. No, there's more. Are we filming more? Yes, we're filming more. So I'll apply it to the other eye as well. Everyone, please take care of your own stomachs too. I hope you'll spread the word. Thank you so much. So thank you very much today as well. See you in the next video. Bye-bye. Whoa, amazing! The redness is completely gone. It gets this clear?
