Hello, Noburi-kun. This is starting to feel like a news broadcast, but how should I begin? Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori. Today we're at the clinic, and I'll be asked various questions, so I'm not sure how you'll respond—is it okay to ask this? It's a bit scary. This might not be good to bring up, but I bought this—a sunscreen milk. It's trending right now, this Muji one. Apparently it's normally a large pump-type bottle, but it's selling so well that only the small size was available. Only enough for one face application was left. But this is only 590 yen. It's been quite a topic on YouTube and X too. Also, this has SPF50 PA++++. It says water-resistant, meaning it's strong against water, and that's included too. Amazingly, it's UV absorber-free, so it's non-chemical. Of course it can be washed off with soap, no added coloring, and it's mineral oil, paraben, and alcohol-free. Allergy tested, though it says not all allergic reactions are guaranteed not to occur. What I saw mentioned on X was that it only uses titanium dioxide, not zinc oxide. I wanted to try this myself too. A sunscreen milk that doesn't use UV absorbers, achieving SPF50 and PA++++ with just titanium dioxide—that's incredibly impressive. Here's why: UV scattering agents alone can block UVB, but it's hard to thoroughly block UVA with them alone. Adding zinc oxide often allows blocking UVA as well, but with titanium dioxide alone, you need to add a huge amount. And to add that much, it tends to turn white. But the fact that it achieves PA++++ suggests they've included quite a substantial amount—that's admirable. However, I do want to explain some things to be cautious about for certain people. Honestly, if you ask whether I'd use it—even though you went through the trouble of buying it for me—I probably can't use it. If it's what I think it is, it should spread really well. Look, doesn't it spread nicely? It really spreads well. But it might not turn as white as expected. Super impressive. Though looking closely, this side gets a bit white, with a slight sheen. The reason I said I wouldn't use this is that it doesn't suit my skin type. That's because this is actually an oil-based sunscreen. When you're only using UV scattering agents and need to boost the protective effect this much, it's really hard to achieve with a water base. Why is that? Because both UV absorbers and scattering agents dissolve easily in oil. That's why old sunscreens used to feel sticky—because they were oily. And that caused the white cast, right? That's because they packed large amounts of oil with large amounts of scattering or absorbing agents, giving it that oily feel. Because there's oil in it, for someone like me with oily, shiny skin, applying a large amount of oil means the oil tends to wash off along with more oil, so people with more sebum production tend to have it wear off more easily. "Water-resistant" means resistant to water. So it's weak against oil. That means it's probably weak against sebum too. I saw someone on X mistakenly say it's fine even when you sweat. Sweat composition and sebum are somewhat different, so it might hold up a little, but especially for people whose T-zone gets shiny, who are prone to acne, or whose pores clog easily, this being oil-based could be an issue. Of course, they probably use ingredients less likely to clog pores, but since they use penetrating oils that soften the skin, it's probably good for people with dry skin. But for someone like me with oily, shiny skin, it might be a bit difficult. Another thing I noticed—it spreads really well. When it spreads that well, and you want to achieve SPF50 PA++++, as I always say, you need to apply 2 milligrams per square centimeter of sunscreen for that SPF rating to actually hold true. That's difficult, right? Five years ago, I actually did an experiment right here about this. For details, please watch that video from five years ago—I even wrote it out on paper and showed it. Now everyone's started saying the same thing, but typically people apply about 0.6 to 0.8 grams, matching the size of a face. If you try to apply this product at that amount, it would end up being quite a lot of oil, but because it spreads so well, people end up using less. That means the actual SPF achieved is likely lower than stated—since it becomes too thin. So if you really want to achieve SPF50 PA++++, you need to apply it thoroughly. But doing so will likely make your skin quite shiny. I think it's amazing for some people, but those with oily skin or who are concerned about shininess should be careful with this one. Wasn't there a gel version of this too? Yes, there was, there was. The gel version's spreadability might be even better—I haven't tried it though. Since it spreads so well, you might end up applying too much without realizing it, so be careful not to overapply. It feels odd to say that about a sunscreen, but yeah—watch out for overapplying. It's really hard to find one sunscreen that's perfect for everyone, isn't it? That's true. It's not that this product is bad—it's just that for someone exactly the opposite of me, someone with low sebum production even in summer, whose skin dries out from air conditioning, and who wants a sunscreen with a rich, oily feel rather than a light, watery one—this would be great for them. Also, another point—some people say zinc oxide tends to clog pores, and those who dislike zinc oxide have been saying that since this product doesn't contain it, it won't clog pores. But it's oil-based, and I think it contains quite a lot of titanium dioxide. Both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are powder-based, so if you don't fully remove them with cleansing, that pore-clogging issue could still occur. So instead of a milky cleanser, it's probably better to remove it with an oil cleanser. I do think this is a genuinely excellent sunscreen, but I think you need to be mindful of your skin type when using it, and also careful about how you remove it. Noburi-kun, you have somewhat dry skin, right? Yeah, that's right. Then I'll give this to you. I don't think it'll last just one use. You could probably get three uses out of it. But to get the proper SPF, given my size, maybe just one time? No, not really. Well, it's only 590 yen anyway. Having a pump type is also really nice. With a pump type, since kids often have dry hands and feet, applying it there could be good too. So if you have dry skin, or if your child's skin gets rough and dry, this could be a great option. I never imagined that five years later, I'd be talking again about 2 milligrams per square centimeter for sunscreen, and about applying 0.6 to 0.8 grams—it feels quite nostalgic. Thank you so much for going out of your way to buy this. Honestly, I never told the doctor directly that I have dry skin or asked what skin type I have, but she casually said "you have dry skin, right?"—and I thought, wow, she really is a doctor. What did you think I was before? I guess you figured it out just from interacting naturally. What did you think I was? I thought you were a funny old lady. I thought you were a funny older sister type. I really feel it every time I come to this clinic. I don't want to work overtime, but occasionally coming here properly—and thank you so much for bringing the white coat. Occasionally in a white coat like this. Like this, I'd like to answer not just Noburi-kun's questions but everyone's questions too, so please feel free to write them in the comments. See you in the next video. Thanks, Noburi-kun.
