Hello everyone, this is Yuri Tomori. As the temperature and humidity drop, it's becoming the dry season. Today I'd like to introduce creams by skin type — not just for dry skin, but also creams that suit oily skin — so please watch until the end. First, let's talk about why dryness happens. When humidity drops, the water in our skin gets pulled away. Why does this happen? In the stratum corneum there are two types of water: 'free water' and 'bound water.' Bound water is protected by intercellular lipids and combined with natural moisturizing factors, so it can't move freely and stays in the skin. Free water, on the other hand, isn't bound to anything, so it escapes. Lotions work by reducing free water and increasing bound water — that's essentially how they hydrate. Creams, simply put, work by forming an oil film that prevents water from escaping. They increase intercellular lipids and natural moisturizing factors, and because they contain a lot of oil, they pull in moisture while forming a film to prevent evaporation. Of course, milky lotions also contain some oil and form a film, but creams can incorporate oil-based ingredients more easily. So if you feel dryness, I want you to use cream-type products. However, the downside of creams is that some people dislike the stickiness, and for people with oily skin, oily ingredients can clog pores or cause acne. So please understand that creams for dry skin and creams for oily skin are different products. If you don't first identify your skin type before choosing, the results may be unsatisfactory. So first, determine broadly whether you have dry skin (including inner-dry skin) or oily skin. Let's start with creams for dry skin. First is Sofina iP's Overnight Penetrating Cream. This is so amazing that I even made an in-depth video about it. To prevent the formation of free water, it spreads keratin fibers within the cells of the stratum corneum, and contains Ectoin, which holds onto water there. This helps eliminate free water and create more bound water — that's a key point. It also firmly incorporates Kao's pseudo-ceramide, embedding it into the intercellular lipids. It's a rich, thick cream that prevents moisture loss — pulling in water, refining the lamellar structure, and additionally preventing internal moisture from escaping. In that sense, it's truly an ally for dry skin. Among all the products I'm introducing today, this is the most suited for dry skin — perfect for those who feel their skin gets dry no matter what they apply. Next is Minon Amino Moist Moist Charge Cream. This also went viral on social media because people said it resembled 'vernix cream' (taishi cream). Why did it seem similar? Because it contains an oil called macadamia nut fatty acid phytosteryl. However, the vernix-derived component in Kanebo's Cream Indy is made from a combination of over 10 different oils, so it's not exactly the same as vernix. Still, macadamia nut fatty acid phytosteryl blends well with skin, isn't sticky, and makes skin feel fluffy — it's an excellent oil in that sense. Since it's included at a high concentration, it really helps make the skin plump and moisturized. It's a premium oil, so the fact that a drugstore cream contains it generously is impressive. Also, as the name Minon suggests, it contains amino acids. Amino acids increase the natural moisturizing factors within the stratum corneum cells, which in turn increase bound water. While increasing bound water, it also uses high-quality oils, so compared to Sofina iP, it's richer but blends more softly into the skin. If Sofina iP feels too heavy for you, Minon's Moist Charge Cream might be a good alternative. Next is the Medicated Moisturizing Cream for dryness care. It contains ingredients that prevent dryness, and notably contains heparinoid. This ingredient helps organize the water-oil lamellar structure of the intercellular lipids and increases natural moisturizing factors. So in terms of reducing free water, it's a wonderful ingredient. It also carefully selects oils to form a protective film, including ceramides and amino acids. However, the main active ingredient is heparinoid, so moisturizing is the primary focus, with ceramides and amino acids as supporting ingredients. It offers great value for the price. It's good for those wanting to address dryness, and since it also contains Vitamin E and Vitamin B6, it's great for those who want anti-aging care along with dryness prevention. Finally, I recommend Nameraka Honpo's Medicated Wrinkle Gel Cream. Its texture is a gel-cream, making it the lightest among the dry-skin creams I've introduced. If you like a light texture but still want solid dryness care, this is a great option. Nameraka Honpo's fermented soy milk liquid provides moisture, and the medicated ingredient is Niacinamide, which has proven efficacy for wrinkle improvement, moisture retention, skin barrier protection, and even whitening. This makes it great for those with dry, easily irritated skin who also prefer a lighter texture. It also contains pure retinol, so it offers some anti-aging benefits too. I've introduced creams for dry skin, but I think many people struggle even more with finding the right cream for oily skin. One I really like is Estra's Tera Acne 365 Medicated Acne Cream. Despite being called a medicated acne cream, you might expect it to suppress sebum, but its actual medicated ingredient is Tranexamic Acid, which calms skin inflammation. Why is calming inflammation so suitable for oily skin? Because when oily skin feels dry, it's often due to inflammation. Inflammation weakens the skin's barrier function, causing moisture to escape more easily. Since the underlying inflammation doesn't settle down, sebum remains present, but internal moisture continues to escape — that's why it's important to include ingredients that calm inflammation, and Tranexamic Acid does exactly that. It also contains Glycyrrhizic Acid, which soothes inflammation while strengthening the barrier function, addressing inner-dryness while moisturizing. It also selects oil ingredients that don't clog pores, avoiding negative effects on acne — making it a wonderful cream. It has a gel-like texture, so even though it's a cream, it feels extremely lightweight. Of course, applying it to acne spots won't cure or eliminate acne, but it's great for those with oily skin who are concerned about pores yet also experience severe dryness. Next is Karte HD Balance Care Gel — one of my favorites. Its active ingredient is also heparinoid, the same type used in the medical moisturizer Hirudoid. It contains a particularly refined form of heparinoid that blends well with oil, incorporated into a gel base. It also contains unique ingredients that suppress sebum production, such as Vitamin B6 (which inhibits sebum oxidation), N-Octanoyl Glycine (which suppresses acne bacteria growth), and Mallow Extract (which prevents inflammation caused by oxidized sebum). It's excellent at controlling sebum, suppressing acne bacteria, and preventing sebum oxidation even when sebum is present. Although it's an oil-free gel formula, it still feels moisturizing. It's great for people who have dry skin yet excess sebum, or for those who've tried many creams before but always end up with acne. Finally, La Roche-Posay's Cicaplast Baume. I've used countless tubes of this. Since I personally have low sebum production, I never really liked creams before, but this was the first cream that made me appreciate how good creams can be. It contains Panthenol, which boosts the skin's repair function, giving it a radiant look. It also contains Thermal Spring Water sourced from La Roche-Posay village, which enhances skin repair. Despite being a cream, it's non-comedogenic — it doesn't feel sticky when applied, and gives a brighter look with no dryness afterward. The difference between nights I use it and nights I don't is huge — pores are less noticeable, and skin looks smoother. While I don't recommend creams for those with active acne, for those who really want to use a cream, I often recommend this one even in clinical settings, and I think it's also great for anti-aging care. In that sense, it's an affordable option (not a luxury cream) for those who want both moisture and anti-aging benefits without the stickiness. So today, I introduced creams for dryness care by skin type. There are already many recommendations for dry-skin creams, but products addressing both oily skin and dryness are relatively rare, so I hope this was helpful. Thank you for watching until the end today. I'll see you in the next video. Goodbye!
