Hello everyone, I'm Arata Tomori. Today I'd like to do a popular feature: "Which one should you use?" First up, we have Pola's Wrinkle Shot Medical Serum N and Elixir's Retino Power Wrinkle Cream S. Both are excellent serums for improving wrinkles, but since they both target wrinkle improvement, I get asked quite often which one the doctor recommends. Let me explain. First, regarding Elixir's Retino Power Wrinkle Cream S, it contains pure retinol as the active ingredient for wrinkle improvement. While retinol is found in many products, only Elixir can claim wrinkle improvement. Elixir properly submitted the effectiveness and safety of wrinkle improvement to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and received official recognition. So if you want wrinkle improvement with retinol, Elixir is the better choice. To begin with, retinol works by increasing hyaluronic acid in the epidermis for a glossy appearance and boosting collagen and elastin, providing a dual effect to improve wrinkles. You might think you could just use something else without wrinkle improvement claims, but actually, Elixir has something that no other product has. This comes from Elixir's wrinkle improvement research. What is it? When comparing people with many wrinkles to those with few, Elixir discovered that the firmness of the stratum corneum is the issue. People with many wrinkles have thick stratum corneum with soft dermis. So when expressions are made or pressure is applied to the stratum corneum, the firmness on top causes significant pressure on the dermis. It's similar to a building's seismic isolation system. If the structure can move and absorb pressure, vibration won't transmit, but if it's completely rigid, pressure accumulates and causes damage. Having flexibility reduces the burden on the dermis. Since retinol increases epidermal hyaluronic acid, it dramatically enhances radiance. So if you want both wrinkle improvement and a luminous glow, you should definitely use retinol, and Elixir with better penetration would be ideal. In contrast, Pola's Wrinkle Shot Medical Serum contains Neo-Danol, a component that was the first in Japan to receive official recognition for wrinkle improvement. When it was released, the industry was abuzz. What is Neo-Danol? Areas of the face experiencing constant expressions are subject to stimulation. For example, the crow's feet when smiling or forehead wrinkles when surprised. The pressure from making expressions causes micro-inflammation, which the body recognizes as an injury, causing neutrophils to accumulate. Neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, attempt to repair the injury by releasing neutrophil elastase, an enzyme that degrades collagen and elastin in areas that aren't actually damaged. Pola discovered that dermal collagen and elastin are broken down by this process, leading to deep wrinkles. I personally use Botox, so I don't apply it there, but for those not wanting Botox, Pola would be a good choice. Next, we have Est's Clarifying Gel Wash and Sofina iP's Pore Clearing Gel Wash. Both contain Kao's pore debris collapse technology. Pore debris is formed when protein and lipid harden. Kao's pore debris collapse technology is revolutionary. It works by collapsing pores from the inside. Previously, similar ingredients existed, but by adjusting concentration and combination, Kao discovered that introducing specific substances causes pores to collapse internally. This is Kao's unique technology. One key component of the pore debris collapse technology is tromethamine, but actually, combining tromethamine with additional ingredients creates the pore debris collapse technology. You might wonder why anti-aging products would include pore debris collapse technology, but as people age, concerns shift from excess oil to dryness, dullness, and loss of brightness. People previously thought pore care was irrelevant, but Kao discovered that when pores contain debris, the surrounding area oxidizes, causing dullness. So Est incorporates pore debris collapse technology while including vitamin E to prevent this oxidation. Since pore debris causes dullness, this cleanser is for broader facial use, including the neck. Est uses the antioxidant vitamin E and pore debris collapse technology for a moisturizing finish. Even with the same pore debris collapse technology, the skin type and objectives differ. So if you're concerned about blackhead pores and enlarged pores, Sofina iP is better. For anti-aging and dullness prevention as the main goal, Est's Clarifying Gel Wash is the choice. Use products according to your specific needs. So, how was "which one to use"?
