Hello everyone! This is Arata Tomori.
Today's video is a must-watch for anyone concerned about pores. I'll be introducing 5 hidden gem items for pore care, so please watch until the end.
I've introduced many pore care items by type before, and since I'm truly a beauty enthusiast, I've dealt with everything from clogged pores in my younger years to sagging pores now. Pores that look black and clogged like this are basically caused by oxidized sebum plugs turning black, so I've introduced many products like Kao's sebum plug dissolving technology that melts away these plugs. However, there are people whose pores are visible even though nothing seems to be clogged, and even though they're washing and taking care of their skin, their pores are still noticeable. Actually, this can happen when the sebum pathway inside the pore becomes enlarged, or when heat causes excessive sebum production, making pores appear open even without being clogged. So today I want to introduce some lesser-known pore care items that address this specific issue.
First, as I mentioned, I want you to determine whether your pores are actually clogged or not. Please try using an enzyme cleanser or something containing Kao's tranexamic acid derivative for at least a month, and if you still find your pores bothersome after that, then try today's items. One key point is suppressing sebum production. Rather than suppressing it all over, the focus should be on areas with many sebaceous glands, especially around the nose and the sides of the nose (alar area), and also suppressing inflammation at the same time. Another obvious point is that when sebum production is high but the pore pathway is narrow, the sebum tries hard to come out and this causes inflammation. So to keep the pathway smooth, exfoliation care is necessary. There's also keratin (dead skin cells) inside the pores, and when that area narrows, it can cause sebum blockage and inflammation. So the key points are: first, sebum control, and second, exfoliation care. Doing both prevents inflammation in the sebum pathway.
With this perspective in mind, I selected today's products. First, I recommend The Ordinary's Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. Many people might think 'oh, there are lots of niacinamide products,' but a high concentration like 10% niacinamide is known to suppress sebum production. Zinc also helps control sebum in a similar way. Since these two ingredients are simply combined, I think this is good to use on areas where you're concerned about sebum - around the nose and chin area. The texture is somewhat sticky, so depending on the product you use alongside it, it might cause pilling with foundation, so please be careful. Products that stop sebum production can sometimes cause inner dryness, but niacinamide itself is also a skin-soothing ingredient, so I think it can be used safely even by those with sensitive skin.
Another recommendation is La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Peel Care Serum. This also contains niacinamide as mentioned, but additionally contains salicylic acid, an oil-soluble peeling agent. There's a lot of sebum in the deep pathway of the pores, right? Regular fruit acids or glycolic acid dissolve in water, so they work well on the surface, but they have difficulty penetrating deep into sebum-filled pores. This time, since we want to exfoliate deep within the pore, oil-soluble salicylic acid is best. In this sense, it not only provides exfoliation but also helps suppress sebum. La Roche-Posay originally has thermal spring water containing an ingredient called serine, which boosts skin's repair capacity. In that sense, it's also great at suppressing inflammation, so it perfectly combines sebum suppression, exfoliation, and anti-inflammatory care. This is also non-comedogenic, meaning it's less likely to cause acne, so it can also help prevent clogging. Since it's from a sensitive skin brand, like Curél, I think this can be used with confidence by people who get irritated by sebum, or those who are concerned about pores but have overall sensitive skin. I'd recommend using this on specific areas rather than the whole face. It has a slightly thick texture but doesn't feel stinging, so it can be used with peace of mind.
Next is the Moisture Mild White Repair Essence. This is sold at Kose Cosmeport drugstores, and I believe I've introduced it before. It's amazing! It contains tranexamic acid and glycyrrhizinic acid to suppress inflammation, and actually contains niacinamide too for sebum suppression, plus vitamin C derivative also helps suppress sebum. For those whose sebum pathway has oxidized and appears brownish, the vitamin C derivative also provides whitening effects. So unlike the previous two items, if you want whitening effects too, this is recommended, and above all, it's incredibly affordable. If you've tried various pore care products for clogging but haven't seen much effect, this could be a hidden gem that surprisingly works well for pores too.
Another one is Kansou-san's Moisture Power. This is a skincare makeup base. Honestly, I usually just apply sunscreen and skip the base, but recently I've found that applying this base before sunscreen prevents pore-related makeup breakdown, and I feel my pores have gotten smaller too. This is recommended for people whose sebum production is high but whose inner skin is dehydrated. Above all, it contains solid pore-tightening ingredients - one is vitamin C derivative, and the other is glycyl glycine. Since this is a base and comes in cream form, the vitamin C derivative used is the oil-soluble type. Being oil-soluble, it gradually penetrates deep into the pores. As mentioned, since pores contain sebum, an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative reaches deeper more effectively. As for glycyl glycine, besides suppressing sebum in the pores, it also suppresses inflammation outside the pore, preventing the formation of crater-like 'mortar pores.' So glycyl glycine is also excellent for pore care. Pore care bases can sometimes cause dryness, but as I mentioned, this is originally from Kansou-san, targeting people with dry skin types - those whose skin surface is oily but the inner layers are dehydrated - so it feels moisturizing and hydrating. That's why I specifically layer this underneath to help with pore care while also preventing makeup breakdown - it's essential for summer when makeup tends to break down, or for those whose pores prevent makeup from applying smoothly. This used to be a limited edition item last year, but I believe it's now available as a regular product this year, so I think it's essential for those with combination/dehydrated skin.
Lastly, this is Estra's Dermocratie 365 series medicated acne cream. Estra is famous for moisturizing products for sensitive skin, but they also have an acne series, and it contains great ingredients not just for acne but also for those with excess sebum and narrow pore pathways as I mentioned. One ingredient is salicylic acid - as mentioned, this oil-soluble peeling agent provides exfoliation deep within pores. The other is tranexamic acid, which is quite unique - tranexamic acid is an active whitening ingredient but also suppresses inflammation. So this cream combines solid exfoliation care with soothing care. You might think a cream feels heavy, but since this is from the acne series, it's actually a water-based cream type, so it's not sticky at all. During this season, creams can feel heavy, but if you experience dryness from air conditioning yet don't want to add oil, this is perfect. It feels like it creates a water-based film on the skin, and with the added salicylic acid and tranexamic acid, it also provides pore care - I thought this was truly a hidden gem, so I wanted to introduce it.
So, how was that? In hot weather, even people with dry skin produce sebum, making pores more noticeable. If you feel your pores have suddenly become more visible in summer, try using one or a combination of these items, and I think you'll find your pores becoming less of a concern. Please check them out if you're interested.
I provide detailed explanations about beauty and health like this, and every Tuesday I also do membership-exclusive live streams. It's just 90 yen a month, so I'd be happy if you joined the membership too. The hot days continue, but I'll see you in the next video. Goodbye!
