Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori (Yui Tomori/Shin Tomori). I thought it was going to be a warm winter this year, but the temperature has really dropped after all. Actually, I myself get extremely cold easily. I'm originally from Miyako Island, a southern island, so I'm abnormally sensitive to cold. I have a long, long history of using cold-sensitivity and warming goods. When I was 23, while studying for my national exam, the library was so cold that my feet would get freezing, and my boyfriend at the time gave me a foot-shaped warming item. You'd plug it into an outlet and it would become like a slipper shape that warmed up. I've still had that for over 20 years now. That's how long my history with cold sensitivity and being cold-prone is. So today, someone with such a long history of being cold-sensitive will explain what cold sensitivity actually is, how to deal with it, and introduce the goods I personally use. Since many women in particular suffer from cold sensitivity, please watch until the end. Of course men can suffer from cold sensitivity too, but overwhelmingly more women experience it. If symptoms like joint pain or headaches arise from cold sensitivity, there are treatments for those specific symptoms, but there isn't actually a medicine that can completely cure cold sensitivity itself. So we really need to take countermeasures. So what actually causes cold sensitivity? First is muscle mass. Since women generally have much less muscle mass than men, people with less muscle tend to feel cold more easily. The second factor is hormones. As I mentioned, women's bodies are actually warm, but that warm blood isn't circulating well throughout the whole body. We women have menstrual cycles, right? The hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle come from the hypothalamus in the brain. Near the hypothalamus is the autonomic nervous system, and when the menstrual cycle gets slightly disrupted, the autonomic nervous system gets disrupted too. This disrupts the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves related to blood flow, making it harder for blood to circulate properly. So because women have menstrual cycles unlike men, our autonomic nervous system is more prone to disruption, which causes blood flow to stagnate. So building muscle, living a regular lifestyle, and regulating your menstrual cycle are all good for improving cold sensitivity. But even with all that, in my 20 years of dealing with cold sensitivity, the only time my body was actually warm was during pregnancy. During pregnancy, blood flow increases so much that I was incredibly warm. But it's been over two years since I gave birth, and I've surprisingly gone right back to being cold. Since fundamentally curing this is very difficult, I think it's important to focus on preventing coldness and knowing how to deal with it when you do get cold. Now let me introduce how I actually use cold-relief goods. The first one is this: the Ion Doctor leg warmers. I actually have a short version too. If this represents the leg, it's designed like this to warm the ankle area. I also have a wrist version, which comes in a glove-type style too. What's great about these is that to prevent body heat from escaping into the outside air, you need to trap air. This traps air, and when you put something over it, since heat conduction through air is very low—just like how wearing a down jacket that traps air is warmer than wearing a regular coat—I feel like these trap more air than regular leg warmers. Plus they're made of silk, so they feel nice. Think of it as being for the feet, and I use them like this. I often carry this small one in my bag, and just this alone keeps me really warm. Since women especially tend to have cold feet, I highly recommend these Ion Doctor leg warmers. After leg warmers, next comes the neck. When I talked about this during my night routine video, people asked where the leg warmer was from—that was actually the Beyonne neck warmer. Since I've always had a somewhat long neck, which makes it prone to getting cold, I decided to protect at least my neck during pregnancy. I found it at a maternity specialty store called Birina, and I always keep two on hand for washing rotation. Warming your neck while you sleep can also help prevent headaches, so even people who think they never get cold should try warming their neck. I buy them at Birina, and I highly recommend the Beyonne neck warmer too. Next is this: Tsumura's Chujoto. This isn't in powder form—sorry, I actually drink this seriously—it comes in this kind of package with a somewhat aromatic dark herbal medicine inside. You pour hot water over it and drink it morning, evening, and before bed. If you steep it too long, it gets too concentrated and doesn't taste great, but if you drink it diluted, the scent isn't too strong and it's not bitter. Behind the stomach is the aorta, and when something warm enters the stomach, the aorta behind it gets warmed, sending warm blood throughout the body, which makes you feel cozy. So drinking hot water or warm coffee or anything warm will quickly make you feel warm. But coffee and tea contain caffeine, which makes the sympathetic nervous system dominant again. However, this Tsumura Chujoto contains subtle amounts of herbal medicine that actually raises your body temperature. So I think it's great for people who want to warm up immediately, and I recommend consulting with a pharmacist at your local pharmacy. It's indicated for anemia, fatigue, stiff shoulders, hot flashes, and cold sensitivity. I drink this about twice a day, and when I'm really cold—this is a bit embarrassing to admit—I put it in a thermos and sip it throughout the day. For people who find it difficult to get herbal medicine prescribed at a hospital, but still want to drink something to warm up, I think this Tsumura Chujoto is quite good, so please consult with your pharmacy staff. For those who don't really like the taste of herbal medicine, or find it troublesome to pour hot water and drink it right away, and want to warm up quickly while out and about, I've introduced this a few times before too—the Sofina iP Chlorogenic Acid Tablets. This is a polyphenol found in plants, and it doesn't contain caffeine. This chlorogenic acid itself improves blood flow and helps improve peripheral circulation, so improving blood flow can help somewhat with cold sensitivity. It also increases skin moisture content, which is great since people with cold sensitivity often have dry skin too. These come in individual packets that you can chew and enjoy the juicy texture, so I keep these in my pouch and eat them that way. Also, recently I was introduced to this through work: Wing's "Cotton Luxury." The skin-side layer uses 100% organic cotton, and the way the cotton is knitted gives it amazingly high insulation. You might think it's just a regular undergarment, but when you wear it, you really feel it's much warmer than other options. I think that's truly due to the cotton knitting technique. So if you're looking for innerwear, this is definitely worth considering. Of course, the high insulation comes from the cotton knit, which apparently creates multiple layers of air. Just like the leg warmers I mentioned earlier, even though it's a thin single layer, the knitting creates more air layers than other undergarments, boosting insulation. Also, about moisture—this fabric has absorption and release properties, so it properly absorbs moisture and then releases it, like it's breathing. So when it's cold, it traps air layers to keep you warm, but when you start to feel sweaty, it releases that moisture outward—very smart. It also has anti-static properties, so it doesn't easily cause static electricity. To summarize what I said at the beginning: of course, if you want to fundamentally improve cold sensitivity, building muscle and living a regular lifestyle is very important. But beyond that, preventing yourself from getting cold in the first place matters too. That's why they say to warm the "three necks"—wrists, ankles, and neck. Make sure to keep those warm. So my recommendations are the Ion Doctor leg warmers and the Beyonne neck warmer. Both of these use knit fabric with high insulation properties, which is a key point. Also, please make sure to consult with a pharmacist, but this Tsumura Chujoto contains lots of herbal medicine that women need, and drinking it really warms you up. If you're truly struggling with cold sensitivity, please consult with a pharmacist near you and try drinking it. For those who aren't quite that severe but want something quick, there's the Sofina iP Chlorogenic Acid Tablets, which help with both cold sensitivity improvement and dryness prevention, making it great for this upcoming season. Another option is Wing's Cotton Luxury. If you think all undergarments feel the same, try wearing this once and you'll notice the difference. Make sure to put in effort to improve things yourself, take countermeasures against the cold, and let's all get through this winter well together. How was that? Today, based on requests from you all, I introduced many of the cold-relief goods I personally use. If you have requests for things you'd like me to cover, please leave comments below—it really helps me plan future videos. I'd be happy if you left comments! See you in the next video. Goodbye.
