Q: What do you think about carbonated skincare? Carbon dioxide itself is known to improve blood circulation in the skin and promote wound healing (for example, healing bedsores). However, how you incorporate that carbonation into skincare products is very important. There are many brands claiming to offer "carbonated skincare," but honestly, few products actually deliver reliable wound-healing or blood-circulation-boosting effects. Many people assume that if foam bubbles up, it must be carbonated, but often that's just like men's shaving foam—just whipped-up foam without any actual carbonation. When I think of carbonation, products like the CO2 gel pack from Fis (Kao Group) or certain carbonated packs come to mind. --- **Q: About Wrinkle Shot** "I use POLA's Wrinkle Shot after Spa Treatment Real Serum. The spa treatment doesn't seem to be oil-based, but even after patting for a while, it still feels like it's sitting on top of my skin. Will Wrinkle Shot still absorb properly if I use it afterward? Also, is patting toner until it feels sticky on my hands too much touching of the skin?" The Nile-1 ingredient in Wrinkle Shot is oil-soluble, so it's totally fine to use after something with a moisturizing texture. I personally use it in that same order after the spa treatment. As for absorption, patting 2-3 times should be fine. You don't need to touch your skin excessively—if you're concerned, just apply a slightly larger amount instead. --- **Q: About using a sheet mask after POLA BA** "I currently use POLA BA as my toner. I heard that layering too many serums can reduce effectiveness. Will using a drugstore sheet mask weaken the effects of BA?" The first product you apply gets absorbed the most. Using a sheet mask after BA won't completely eliminate its effects, but it's better to use BA first if possible. --- **Q: About acne on the chin and chest, and peeling recommendations** "I struggle with poor turnover on my chin and chest, resulting in rough skin and constant breakouts. Do you have any peeling product recommendations?" For acne on the chin and chest, peeling products are definitely recommended. Dr. Ci:Labo has an orange-colored 3-step series that includes both vitamin C and peeling. My older sister, who has acne-prone skin, said it worked really well for her, so I'd recommend it. Also, the Phytoradiance Facial Mask I mentioned during the rainy season is good to apply all over as well. --- **Q: About ice-pick acne scars** "I'm 35 years old. I have noticeable ice-pick acne scars from severe acne in middle school. I've had Dermapen and fractional laser treatments, but they haven't improved much. What treatment do you think is most effective?" Fractional laser is still probably the most effective option—I've had it done myself several times. There's also a newer treatment called Potenza. Unfortunately my clinic doesn't offer it, but a junior colleague I really like, Dr. Yanagishita, offers it at Akasaka Stella Clinic. I've seen several case studies from there, and the results looked quite good. If fractional laser hasn't given you the results you want, Potenza might be worth trying. --- **Q: About sunscreen for sensitive skin with a light finish** "After watching your videos, I learned the importance of sunscreen and now wear it every day without fail. Could you recommend a lightweight sunscreen for sensitive skin? I tried La Roche-Posay and Anthelios, but they felt sticky on my skin." For a lighter feel, I'd recommend Skin Aqua Next UV or Gel Seed Serum UV Essence. Skin Aqua products in general tend to feel quite light. --- **Q: About scent and skin beauty** "Rose scent is said to affect female hormones, and sandalwood/frankincense are said to raise blood oxygen levels. There isn't much research, but some institutions do study the relationship between scent and beautiful skin. What's your opinion on how scent affects the skin?" There are researchers who properly study what changes occur in the brain when we smell certain scents. Based on that research, a product called Shimpiru's Mindfulness Fragrance—a non-alcohol room fragrance—was developed. It's been scientifically studied to show that certain scents can calm the brain and stimulate the sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system. I believe there were three types: one for boosting your mood in the morning, and one for use before sleep. Since these are backed by proper research, while going scent-free is fine too, I think it's also good to use scents you personally enjoy—especially ones with proven effects—as a way to help regulate your autonomic nervous system. --- **Q: About skincare routine order** "I'm 28 and don't have major skin concerns yet, but I'm working hard on prevention for spots and wrinkles. Is this order correct after cleansing? True Reveal Deep Moisture Spray → Dr. Ci:Labo New VC Essence Lotion EX → POLA CC Premium Serum → Sofina iP Bright Serum → Shiseido Elixir Wrinkle Cream (eyes, forehead, half of face) → Job's Tears Serum Face Mask → Premium Whitening Emulsion" I assume the Job's Tears Serum Face Mask is a sheet mask? Placing it in that position in the routine seems a bit odd. If you're going to use it, I'd suggest using it right after the VC Essence Lotion. --- **Q: About combining oral sunscreen supplements with other supplements** "I currently take tranexamic acid and Active Supplement ACE. Since I'll be spending a lot of time outdoors this summer, I'm considering starting Aquarista's oral sunscreen supplement. Is it safe to take both together? Also, should oral sunscreen be taken after sun exposure, and should I finish an entire box continuously?" I don't believe Aquarista contains tranexamic acid. It contains astaxanthin, vitamin C, collagen, lycopene, and vitamin E. So there is some overlap with the ACE supplement. However, since some ingredients are unique to each product, it should be fine as long as you don't take excessive amounts overall. I don't know the exact dosage amounts, so if you're concerned, it's a good idea to contact each manufacturer directly. In general, though, it should be fine—though the C and E do overlap with the Active Supplement ACE. As for timing, it's best to take oral sunscreen supplements in the morning of a day when you expect to be exposed to the sun. --- **Q: About changing skincare products between morning and night** "A cosmetics company representative mentioned that changing your skincare routine between morning and night can reduce effectiveness. Apparently, research studies show effectiveness is based on using the same products both morning and night, except when a product is specifically labeled for AM or PM use. I currently use different products in the morning and evening—what's your opinion?" It's less about effectiveness being reduced, and more that cosmetic companies typically conduct "continuous-use studies"—for example, testing results after 20 days of using the same product both morning and night. So it makes sense that they'd say that. That said, I don't think switching products means you get zero benefit. Using the same product morning and night likely produces the results the company specifically designed the product to achieve. So ultimately, it comes down to personal choice, taking that into account. I don't think it means there's no effect at all when alternating products.
