This is a product from COSME DECORTE that, at first glance, looks like a serum. It's actually a pore-care serum, and remarkably, it was developed using cutting-edge quantum computer technology. If you want to know about the most advanced skincare available, please watch until the end. So what exactly is this product? It's actually a cleansing oil. Its official name is a "rinse-off oil serum," a pore-care serum oil. You massage the oil onto your nose in circular motions and then rinse it off. They said you can use it on your whole face too, but at 40ml for 11,000 yen, it comes with a dropper that dispenses just the right amount—two dropperfuls are enough for areas like the nose and chin where most people worry about pores. If you want to use it on your entire face, you'd need about four dropperfuls, so using it for full-face cleansing might be a bit of a luxury. I think it's best used for spot cleansing on areas like the nose or chin. Now, what makes this cleanser groundbreaking is that it uses a quantum computer to target blackhead/pore plugs (called "kakusen" in Japanese). So what exactly is a pore plug? Our stratum corneum is made of protein, and when sebum (oil) mixes with that protein, it becomes complexly intertwined, forming what we call a pore plug. The structure of a pore plug is about 70% protein and the remaining 30% lipid (oil). When you try to forcibly remove what's clogging your pores down to the root, you end up pulling too hard, which can cause the pores to widen or lead to inflammation. Traditional approaches involved either scraping the surface or breaking things down from the inside. But COSME DECORTE's approach isn't about yanking things out—it's about dissolving the pore plug instead. When it comes to dissolving protein, since our skin is also made of protein, that approach would burden the skin. So instead, they focused on that remaining 30%—the oil component of the pore plug. This time, they took a scientific approach focused on how to dissolve the oil within the pore plug. Oils have something called "solubility"—how easily they dissolve. Some dissolve easily, others don't, and it's known that oils with similar solubility levels tend to dissolve well together. So they used a computer to calculate what kind of oil composes the pore plug and determine which oils would be most compatible. Apparently, there are an enormous number of possible oil combinations—for example, combining jojoba oil, squalane, and other oils to calculate solubility with the pore plug. It's not just one oil paired with one target, but combinations of three or five different oils paired with the pore plug—reportedly around 100 billion possible combinations. Calculating each one individually would take years, even decades. But when this was processed through a quantum computer, it was completed in just 10 seconds. Until now, cosmetic development largely relied on researchers' personal experience—knowing through trial and experience which ingredients work well together. But that approach limits you to combinations you might expect. This was so impressive that when I asked the researcher about it, they said, "Honestly, we never would have arrived at this combination ourselves—it's a bit frustrating to admit." So you might wonder, what's actually in it? I'll show you the full ingredient list here, but honestly, if you just look at it, there's nothing particularly novel or unfamiliar. Some people have commented that this seems like you could get the same results with an ordinary cleansing oil. I actually thought something similar—like, "is this really okay?"—and I brought that exact concern to the researcher. They said, "When I saw that reaction, I actually thought, 'gotcha!'" Looking at individual ingredients, you could say any of them work to some degree, but it's not really about which single ingredient is effective—it's that this specific combination is what allows it to dissolve pore plugs specifically and optimally. There's definitely a trend nowadays of hyping specific ingredients—like "it's meaningless without this ingredient" or "it's definitely effective because this ingredient is in it." But this is a true example of formulation mastery. Rather than one standout ingredient, it's the precise combination and interaction of ingredients that allows it to specifically target pore plugs. So ironically, ingredient enthusiasts who get hung up on individual components might not be drawn to buy this, thinking there are similar-looking products elsewhere. But once you actually use it, you can tell it's on a completely different level from conventional pore care. That said, it might not be quite potent enough for oily-skinned teenagers—meaning the quantity might not be sufficient for their needs. But the way it dissolves pore congestion, gently breaking down plugs without burdening the skin while keeping it balanced, is honestly addictive. For someone like me who used to have oily skin and still worries about pore grime and clogged plugs, but finds that many youth-oriented serums leave my skin feeling tight, this could be a great option.
