皆さんこんにちは、中皮膚科医の友利新です。今日はサムネイルにも書きましたけれども、皆さん、美容液のことはもう忘れてください。化粧水だけで全然大丈夫ですという、すごい化粧水が発売になったので、今日はそのご紹介をしたいと思います。 ズバリ、こちらPOLA「BAザ・ローション」になります。黒光りしているこのBAのローションは、多くの美容雑誌で特集が組まれており、非常に話題になっている化粧水です。これを使うと美容液がいらないと思わせるほど、肌のハリ感や水分量が向上し、プルッとしたお肌に生まれ変わってくれるような、研究の要素がギュッと詰まったすごい化粧水なんです。 私はよく、コスメには各メーカー独自の技術、いわば「秘伝のタレ」が入っているというお話をするのですが、このBAザ・ローションの秘伝のタレをご紹介する前に、どのような研究の末にその成分が発見されたかをお話ししたいと思います。なぜかというと、これが化粧品とは思えないほど壮大な研究だからです。 この研究のテーマは「遺伝子」です。遺伝子は生まれた時に決まっており、通常は変えることができません。しかし、一卵性双生児は同じDNAを持っているにもかかわらず、生活環境の違いによって太りやすさや見た目に差が出てくることがあります。また、ミツバチの女王蜂と働き蜂はDNAがほぼ同じでも、後天的な要因によって女王蜂になる個体が生まれます。つまり、日焼けや喫煙、肥満といった後天的な生活習慣によって、遺伝子の働きが活発になったり弱まったりすることがわかっています。 2003年に人間のDNA解析が完了しましたが、各遺伝子がどのような働きをするかはまだ未知の領域が多く、特に肌に関するものは不明な点が多いです。今回POLAが研究したのは、コラーゲンやエラスチンなど、肌のハリに関わるDNAです。 これまでの研究では、コラーゲンやエラスチンに関係する遺伝子は、全遺伝子の約2%しか関与していないとされていました。通常であればこの2%を研究するところですが、POLAが着目したのは残りの98%、いわゆる「ジャンクDNA」と呼ばれる領域です。この98%の中に未知の素晴らしい発見があるのではないかと考え、研究を進めたところに、この研究の壮大さがあります。 DNAは細胞の設計図であり、各細胞の核の中に大切に保存されています。DNAの情報はRNAというコピーに転写され、そのRNAが翻訳されることでタンパク質が作られ、コラーゲンやエラスチンの生成などに関与します。98%のジャンクDNAはRNAには転写されるものの、翻訳されないため体の機能には関与しないと考えられていました。 ところが、POLAの研究員がこの「翻訳されないRNA」の中から「LINC00942」というRNAを発見しました。このLINC00942が、線維芽細胞の活性化・血管内皮細胞の修復促進・余分な脂肪細胞の減少、という3つの働きに深く関与していることが明らかになったのです。この発見には構想から10年以上を要し、研究員がアメリカに渡り、吹雪の中で命の危険を感じながらも2年以上研究を続けたという、並々ならぬ努力の結晶です。 LINC00942が増えることで、ハリを持たせたい部位のコラーゲン・エラスチンが増加し、もたつきの原因となる余分な脂肪が減少し、血流改善によって肌全体に輝きが生まれます。 次の課題は、このLINC00942をどうやって増やすかです。研究の結果、「センニチコウ種エキス」と「地黄エキス」がLINC00942を増やすことが判明しました。POLAはこの2つを独自にミックスした「センニチコウロマス（Celosia Complex）」という成分を開発し、慶應義塾大学との共同研究により、この成分がLINC00942を最大7倍に増加させることが確認されています。 この成分がたっぷり配合されたBAザ・ローションは、トロッとしているのにベタつかず、スーッと伸びます。化粧水だけでも物足りなさを感じないほどの保湿力があります。私は6月の発表会で先行使用させていただき、9月の発売に合わせて追加購入するほど気に入っています。今年のベストコスメの化粧水部門はこれが獲るのではないかと予想しています。 BAシリーズにはローションのほか、乳液・クリーム・クレンジング・洗顔フォームもあります。クレンジングと洗顔フォームには、POLAが独自開発した乳化剤「マルツーファー」が配合されています。この成分は洗い流した後も肌に水分を吸着・保持する働きがあり、洗い上がりの突っ張り感がまったくありません。洗顔フォームは泡立ちも良く、まるで水をまとったような洗い上がりが特徴です。 もちろん化粧品である以上、効果には個人差があります。しかし、遺伝子レベルから研究を行い、慶應大学との共同研究でしっかりとエビデンスを示しているPOLAの姿勢は非常に信頼できると思います。研究に裏打ちされた成分がたっぷり配合された化粧水を使うことは、気持ちを高めるとともに、肌への効果も十分期待できるのではないでしょうか。 このチャンネルでは美容や健康についてわかりやすく解説しています。よかったらチャンネル登録をお願いします。では、また次の動画でお会いしましょう。

I often talk about how cosmetics brands have their own unique "secret ingredient" — a proprietary technology that sets them apart. Before revealing what that secret ingredient is in BA The Lotion, I want to walk you through the remarkable research journey that led to its discovery, because this is truly extraordinary science — even by standards beyond cosmetics. The theme of this research is genes. Genes are determined at birth and cannot normally be changed. Yet identical twins, who share the same DNA, can develop differences in body weight and appearance over time due to their different environments. Similarly, queen bees and worker bees share nearly identical DNA, yet a worker bee can transform into a queen through external factors. This tells us that lifestyle habits — such as sun exposure, smoking, and obesity — can activate or suppress the expression of genes we already carry. Human DNA was fully sequenced in 2003, but understanding what each gene actually does remains a largely uncharted territory, especially when it comes to skin. POLA focused its research on the genes related to skin firmness — specifically those governing collagen and elastin. Previous research had established that only about 2% of all genes are involved in regulating collagen and elastin production. Most researchers would naturally focus on that 2%. What makes POLA extraordinary is that they chose to explore the remaining 98% — the so-called "junk DNA" — believing that groundbreaking discoveries might be hidden there. That bold decision is what makes this research so remarkable. To explain the science briefly: DNA is the blueprint of the body, safely stored in the nucleus of every cell. This blueprint is transcribed into RNA (a working copy), which is then translated into proteins that drive cellular functions such as collagen and elastin production. The 98% of "junk DNA" was thought to be non-functional because while it is transcribed into RNA, that RNA is never translated into proteins. However, a POLA researcher discovered a specific RNA within this non-coding region called LINC00942. This molecule was found to be deeply involved in three key functions: activating fibroblasts (the cells that produce collagen and elastin), promoting the repair of vascular endothelial cells (which maintain healthy blood vessels and nutrient delivery to skin cells), and reducing excess fat cells that contribute to facial sagging. This discovery took over a decade of work, including more than two years of dedicated research at a laboratory in the United States — where the researcher reportedly faced a life-threatening blizzard during the course of the study. When LINC00942 levels increase, collagen and elastin production improves in areas where firmness is needed, excess fat that causes sagging decreases, and improved blood flow restores a natural radiance to the skin. The next challenge was finding how to increase LINC00942. Research revealed that two ingredients — Celosia argentea seed extract and Rehmannia root extract — could do just that. POLA combined these into a proprietary complex called Celosia Complex. In a joint study with Keio University, it was confirmed that this complex increases LINC00942 levels by up to 7 times. That is an impressive, third-party-verified finding. BA The Lotion is rich in this Celosia Complex. It has a slightly viscous texture that glides on smoothly without feeling sticky. Unlike conventional cleansers that wash away all moisture along with dirt, Maltoofer is designed to retain moisture on the skin even after rinsing. The result is a complete absence of the tight, dry feeling that usually follows cleansing — I actually wondered if the cleanser had worked at all the first time I used it, because my skin felt so comfortable afterward.
