Transcript (English)
Hello everyone. This is Arata Tomori. Today we welcome Osawa Akane-chan, who has been rumored recently in the beauty industry to have become 'too beautiful.'
"Hello. Nice to work with you."
"It's been a while."
"Long time no see."
Does everyone remember? We appeared together on 'Sukkiri.'
"That's right. We both worked as commentators."
Recently in the beauty industry there's been this suspicion of 'Osawa Akane getting more beautiful, isn't she?'
"I'm so happy to hear that!"
Today I want to question you a bit, like in an interrogation room.
"You want to do it like an interrogation room."
"Is that alright with you?"
"Of course. I'm happy to be here."
So today I want to ask why Osawa Akane keeps getting more beautiful. Thank you for joining us.
You originally liked beauty care, right?
"Actually, I originally had no interest in beauty at all, and hadn't done anything until now. Especially after giving birth, mornings were so busy that I didn't even wash my face."
You didn't wash it?
"I didn't have time to moisturize in the morning. If I couldn't moisturize, I figured I might as well not wash my face either."
Doctor, are you okay? So what changed?
"At 36, after giving birth to my third child, I physically couldn't work anymore, so I took a break for about two years."
That makes sense.
"When I suddenly looked at my face in the mirror one morning, it was dull, sagging, and puffy. There was someone who wasn't 'myself' there. When you're only doing childcare and housework, you don't have time to face yourself. I didn't have time to devote to that kind of self-care. One morning at 36, when I glanced at myself in the mirror, I thought 'wait, wait a minute.' Then I turned on the TV and saw former colleagues who used to work with me looking sparkly and glamorous on TV. It was a huge shock. That's when it all started."
What did you start with first?
"First, I decided to properly wash my face in the morning."
The basics, right? The fundamentals.
"Properly wash my face and moisturize it. For washing, I'd use a foaming net to really work up a lather, wash gently, then moisturize."
That's good.
"It really was good. Thank you so much, doctor."
"Not at all."
Even someone with such high potential, who's been in showbiz since age 8, if you neglect yourself, you end up like that. But by doing this, you achieved this look.
"Well, 'cured' might not be the right word..."
More like maintaining it, or rather, you've become even more beautiful.
"I'm working hard at it now."
So washing your face, moisturizing, waking up properly - you're doing pretty well now?
"Yes I am. Once I built that foundation, I really got into beauty treatments too - things like toning, and lately I'm into titanium lifts, thermal lifts, I love them so much. I'm a huge laser fanatic. So whenever something new comes from Korea to Japan, I try it right away."
That's wonderful. A lot of people tend to keep this kind of thing secret.
"Really?"
Like pretending they're beautiful without doing anything.
"I see."
But you actually do these things and also take good care with skincare. That's so reassuring.
"That's right."
What's your approach to skincare like?
"For skincare, I've always loved baths, and I've made sure to take one every day since long ago. I thought about turning bath time into beauty time - things like doing a foam pack or a milky lotion pack while in the bath. Sweating is good for the skin, so I also do things like mugwort steam treatments, turning bath time into extra beauty time. When you do that, even when you use a slightly pricier lotion afterward, it really seems to absorb better."
Because the foundation is properly in place.
"Wow, that's amazing."
Are there things you're curious about regarding beauty right now? Things you want to try?
"There are tons."
Actually, I want to ask you now - what beauty treatment would you most recommend right now for people approaching their 40s and 50s? How old are you now?
"I'm 40."
Sorry, I suddenly feel dizzy.
"Really?"
Yes. I'm 48, born in the Year of the Horse, so from my perspective... around 45 or so.
"Ah, that's when sagging starts, isn't it." Yeah, that's when you really need to fundamentally work on it.
"Is that when it starts?"
For sagging treatment devices, broadly speaking there are two categories: RF and HIFU-type devices. Combining these sagging treatment devices well around age 40 is really the best approach.
Looking at you now, it's not so much sagging as it is here, right?
"The 'ponyo' beside our mouths."
The puffiness and nasolabial folds. What matters here isn't so much lifting as tightening. In that sense, applying RF like InMode to give heat here helps produce collagen and elastin, so applying RF properly is the best approach.
Are you using anything now?
"For lasers, I use InMode and..."
Great.
"I love Thermage."
That's also RF. It's an RF device. In Korea there's Titanium Lift and Ondaliff. They similarly apply heat. Thermage and InMode are both RF, but the way heat is delivered is a bit different, so rather than doing both at once, it's better to stick with one RF consistently, occasionally adding something like titanium. I think RF is most effective for sagging - it tightens.
"Tightening."
Even for lifting, you need tightening first. If you try to lift soft tofu, it just slides and sags, right? But with fried tofu, you can lift it cleanly because it's firm. To create that kind of firmness and hold, using RF to build collagen in the skin is the best approach.
"I see, that makes sense. Does InMode involve suction and heating?"
I think so, probably.
"InMode also has the type where it sucks and does 'gugugu,' which makes the area red like it's been choked, and there's also the type that just applies warmth directly - I think there are two types."
If you're concerned about your jawline, that suction type is good. If you're concerned about the puffiness around the mouth, the non-suction type that just rotates and warms is probably better.
"That's great, I see."
Sagging treatment devices first appeared about 10-20 years ago, so people who were 30 or 40 twenty years ago don't seem to have much sagging now. Since the technology has advanced so much, if people start in their 30s-40s now, they probably won't have as many concerns by the time they're in their 50s-60s.
"Really? So current care really matters a lot."
Everyone wants dramatic before-and-after results. If that's what you want, you'd need surgery - things like thread lifts or cutting and pulling would give dramatic results. But that's not really it, is it? What everyone actually wants is to look naturally beautiful, updating to look their best at every age. If you want that, it really comes down to steady, consistent effort. Of course skincare matters too. If you're building collagen with InMode, in the latter half of 2025 there are a lot of skincare products coming out that build collagen too. If you use that skincare together with the treatments, you get a great synergy - boost it up all at once with the treatment, maintain with the skincare, boost again, maintain again. I really want people to use skincare together with treatments.
"Are there treatments or ingredients you think will be big this year, doctor?"
I don't really want to say...
"Tell me!"
As for treatments, continuing from last year, skin health treatments like Rejuran are still something people are incorporating.
"Have you tried it?"
"I haven't. It's scary."
Want to see?
"I want to see, I want to see!"
Just a moment...
"Wow, really. There's no redness."
There's not much redness.
"There are lots of little bumps though. It's different."
Skin moisture levels definitely rise with this. Combining that would be great - though it's still a bit early for Akane-chan. There's a machine called Sofwave; until now devices only tightened, but now there are machines coming out that also address fine wrinkles while improving skin quality. That's more for people around 45 and up.
"Is that a recent machine?"
Yes. It's been around for about a year, but it just got approval in Japan for skin quality improvement, pore tightening. Once that approval came through, a lot of doctors started using it more. Also, in terms of skincare ingredients, peptides are big - there are peptides that build collagen, peptides that relax muscles, all sorts of peptides being developed.
"What's that best for?"
For example, a specific peptide that builds collagen would help with firmness. A peptide targeting pores would shrink pores. A peptide that relaxes muscles would help with wrinkles.
"So there's a wide variety even among peptides."
Exactly. Along with that trend, rather than single ingredients like vitamin C or niacinamide alone - what's called single ingredients - there's a trend toward complex formulations with multiple ingredients, like fermented ingredients, that address things more holistically. Speaking of which, things like PDRN are also getting a lot of focus.
"These ingredients often come from Korea and become trendy these days, right?"
That's right. Korean brands are really skilled at creating trends. In Japan there are a lot of regulations, so it's hard to advertise 'this has this effect,' but in Korea that's completely fine. Now you can just look at Korean products online, so people think 'oh, this is good.' I do think Japanese brands aren't as skilled at marketing, but it's not about which is better or worse - both are doing solid work with their ingredients in their own way. First, it's important to know your own concerns, what you actually need. Once you find that, it becomes enjoyable, and I think a good cycle starts turning.
"That's true. With trendy ingredients filling up drugstore cosmetic shelves these days, rather than buying and trying things randomly, it's important to first understand your own concerns and then care for your skin accordingly. I also think it's good to follow people with similar concerns to your own."
Do you share the process you went through somewhere?
"Yes! Actually, it's going to be a book. Here it is: 'Late-Blooming Skin Care Otaku: All In on Beauty.'"
Wow, it's really all about bath-time beauty.
"That's right."
Amazing.
"It has tips for enjoying bath time, ways to keep doing beauty care enjoyably and make it a habit. Also, I've been dieting for about two years - there was a show segment where I ended up playing drums in a band, and I had zero stamina, to the point where after playing just one song I'd feel like throwing up. So the doctor told me I should build core strength and tighten up a bit."
Exercise too?
"Not exactly exercise, more like walking a bit, and I also did dietary restrictions."
Is the method for dietary restriction written in the book too?
"It is."
One thing I liked was 'leave-it-out management.'
"'Putting it away is being lazy.'"
I get it. Most people keep everything neatly stored away, right?
"When I take Instagram photos I do tidy up, but usually things are just left out."
That's actually more convenient in a way.
"Because you just grab it and use it right away!"
Exactly. There are times when you can't remember where you put something away, right?
"Yes, exactly! I relate to that completely."
Really? You were originally cute too, but there's this soft glow now - it's probably because your skin condition is good, no dullness, no puffiness, and your overall form has improved. That secret is hidden in this book.
"It's all in there."
Also, it says 'late-blooming' but being a 'skin care otaku' - well, I'm sort of a veteran in the beauty world too.
"Well, well, well."
Suddenly?
"Since beauty is often about skin, please keep coming back regularly."
Really?
"I'll definitely keep asking you things. Even though it's late-blooming, I started enjoying it - I'm still just a chick."
From there, you'll step up more and more, becoming a chick.
"Huh? No, no."
Until you become a full chicken.
"Until I become a chicken."
As the parent bird, please watch over me properly. So, we want to do a second and third installment, so thank you very much.
"As fellow Sukkiri members."
As fellow Sukkiri members, let's work hard together until we finally get to invite Kato-san here too.
So, thank you so much for coming today.
"Thank you."
