Hello everyone, I'm Arata Tomori. Where have I come to? Kyoto! Today, SK-II has invited me to a science session. I've been looking forward to meeting wonderful teachers and having consumer experiences. It's been a while since I've been in Kyoto, so I'm really excited! What a wonderful fragrance. Look at this! Welcome! What is this? So beautiful! It has a summery feel, and tomorrow is the beginning of autumn since tomorrow marks Risshuun. What is this? It's a rose tea! Amazing! When it's displayed like this, I thought it might be champagne, but I prefer this. The greenery outside looks beautiful, and this is a wonderful space. You really need a wide sink for daily life. Every day I'd love to be in a place like this. There's a shower bath. Let me put my luggage in the room first, and before tomorrow's session, I'd like to explore Kyoto. There are many foreign visitors. The matcha place I filmed on YouTube last year is still here. How nostalgic! I'm glad I brought a parasol. Yeah, definitely. Wow! I can see the five-story pagoda so clearly. Look! Wow! It suddenly appears. I need to take a photo before I get sunburned. Delicious. This is the most delicious lemon squash I've ever had. It's hot. Before I hear about the science presentation this time, I'd like to measure the current state of my skin using SK-II's usual measurement opportunity. Tomorrow I'll hear about the science-packed new products, so let me quickly reveal my skin first. Thank you for having me. Thank you. Thank you. That's a nice place. Let me visit you. Next door. What's your name? I'm Yoshimori from K-Service. Your skin looks so smooth too, Yoshimori. The teacher shines more. How embarrassing. So dazzling! Please feel free. Things are being updated. This is new skin measurement technology with the latest features. Thank you. Thank you. I'll take a photo. A circle will appear, so please place your face in it. That looks good. Beautiful. Please look straight at this camera. It has begun. 1.2 million baseline. Your face is analyzed into three parts—SK-II's most advanced skin measurement. Let's look at your teacher's sparkling points. Your skin age is 36. Amazing. Clever. Clever. Well then, shall we move on? Teacher's this sparkle—the sparkle you always see and the additional sparkle that shines even brighter—this is now the teacher's most beautiful, ultimate beautiful skin part. Please tap on this sparkling part. Let me do it. In the teacher's skin, what's happening is the combined power of beauty. We can measure how actively communication is being taken. With the image shown, you can really see it. It's like they're having a proper conversation, very active. Really, look how actively it's moving! This super golden sparkle represents a skin condition overflowing with wonderful combined beauty power. More of this is better, right? The teacher selected pores as today's concern area, and I'm a bit concerned about a slightly higher place on the cheeks. Please tap on this part too. Let me do it. Worry. This is completely different from before. You can see it, right? It's not really stuck together; it's scattered. That's right. This area too, when you properly enhance the combined power of beauty, becomes a point that can lead to ultimate beautiful skin. It's amazing how clear it is to see this way. The red area I showed you today—pore oiliness areas, and yellow indicates growth potential—today's concerns about firmness and wrinkles are slightly visible in this area. Yes, the under-eyes definitely are a concern. That's where the teacher's favorite Pitera really works. You love it. The secret recipe really works gradually. We concentrated this secret recipe to the limit—ultra-concentrated Pitera. Ultra-concentrated, right? Only limited skilled technicians carefully control this ingredient so it doesn't break down—that's ultra-concentrated Pitera. We don't apply heat, right? Otherwise it would break. If you apply heat, yes. It breaks. So the science part will be introduced by our specialist teacher today. What ultra-concentrated Pitera can do is enhance the combined power of beauty—that's what ultra-concentrated Pitera is. Your current skin condition, this is also an image, but the inside with red areas and such were probably in this state before. By providing appropriate care and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, bit by bit, truly, cell by cell, they gather, bond, and by taking lots of communication, we can lead your skin to beautiful future skin. Wonderful! Now, we have a specialist in spatial biology of cell adhesion here today, so let me introduce them. Thank you very much. I'm Miyamoto from SK-II Research and Development. Miyamoto, it's been a while. It's been a while. When I participated in an academic conference in Singapore, I heard various things from Miyamoto, so at that time we discussed different clinical receptor receptors and similar topics. You remember well. Of course! I was really impressed. I thought it was amazing then too. What science is involved this time? What we've developed scientifically isn't meant to explain different theories—you can think of it as accumulating one thing after another. For instance, inflammation, oxidation, and various other mechanisms we've elucidated. But until now, we only understood the overall picture of how the entire skin was doing. When there's inflammation in skin cells, which cells are inflamed? Where are they helping each other?—we actually didn't understand that far. That's right. Generally speaking, we understand it roughly like this, but we can't quite understand the individual aspects. So, one by one, what connections do these cells have? What communication are they taking?—we've developed a method to analyze all of this at once, which was established about 10 years ago, and this is the first time we're introducing it to skincare. I see. This definitely exists in medical fields and various internal medicine applications, but we've now applied it to skincare. You might think of skin as a single layer, but it's actually three-dimensional, with various skin cells everywhere. With spatial biology—we call it the space within skin cells. I see. We'd never done this in skincare before. I've never heard of it. Never heard of it. In this context, as we saw in the consultation earlier, where your skin condition is very good—the super golden sparkle areas—at the top of the top of your skin—cells at the surface layer and all the way to the mysterious layers underneath are actually doing quite a bit of communication. That's why we found that it's connected to your skin condition and appearance. Understanding that, we can see where this is happening in my skin and where the weaker areas are through this magic scan in an instant. Wow, incredible. People notice their own skin getting smoother or feeling fuller, but whether the overall skin is lifting—people often don't really understand that well. So with magic scan and seeing age appear, that's nice, but seeing things that were bad become good or good things get even better—that motivates you! Magic scan is truly what we call positive counseling, finding the good parts of your skin—we can do that. We can find your best skin too! That's delightful! When you know yourself, you understand what skincare you need. In my own skincare, I used to focus on one thing at a time like inflammation, but if you take a holistic approach where cells communicate together, your skin will look beautiful beyond your age or appear more youthful. This time our science point is spatial biology. Tomorrow I'd like to hear from our expert, Professor Kamashima, so I'm looking forward to it. Thank you very much, Miyamoto. Thank you. Good morning. It's day two. Kyoto is beautifully clear again today. I'm going to hear about spatial biology from Kyoto University Professor Kamashima and various other experts, and we'll have experiential sessions, so I'm really excited! Look at this view, it's so beautiful. I'm thrilled! Well then, let's head to the science symposium. Day two. Let's go! Day three. So I'd like to hear from Professor Kamashima right away. Professor, thank you for having me. First, I'd like your autograph later if possible. This is Professor Kamashima's book—more for general readers than for medical professionals. It's so interesting, and I think 'Can we really write about this?' Originally, I wanted the general public to understand that skin is important, and I wanted to tell students that studying dermatology and research is important. It took about three years to write. I'll get your autograph later, but today about spatial biology—I hadn't really heard of it much before. My image of you, Professor, was that you developed atopy treatment drugs and manage immunity—I thought of you as an immunology expert. But with spatial biology now, could you explain what this is all about? Well, immunity is still the foundation, really. In the skin, there are various immune cells, fibroblasts that make collagen, epidermal cells, nerves. The communication between these various cells has a huge impact. So to understand immunity, we need to understand other cells, and to understand interactions between other cells, where they exist, which cell-to-cell interactions are important—spatial information is crucial for understanding all this. To clarify this, we developed technology to see inside the skin. We've come to understand very well at the genetic expression level how cell-to-cell interactions occur. One by one, when you combine individual cell characteristics, they display incredible power, likely leading to explosive scientific advances. Understanding which cells are where and what communication they're taking—that's what this clarifies. Right. In textbooks, for instance, it says immune cells exist, but whether that cell and a nerve cell are touching or not—that's not something textbooks can really show. And what happens ten minutes later—we couldn't really understand. It was just 'we kind of understand,' but we've now reached a point where we can actually get answers. And another thing—we can understand the character of each individual cell that's there. With past analysis, you could tell there were cells at the top of the epidermis, cells in the middle, cells at the bottom. But whether each individual cell at the bottom was a stem cell, what kind of communication the stem cell had with neighboring cells—we absolutely couldn't capture those individual cell characteristics. But because we can understand gene expression at the cellular level, this cell looks the same but this cell is aging—all that character information becomes clear. Among those, if there's a cell not working hard, we can encourage it to work harder. When that cell works hard, the surrounding cells have to work hard too. Such cell-to-cell communication becomes visible. When you do that like this, whereas before we just kind of understood everything, when you think of them as individual characters, you become fond of them and want them to do well too! So I'm grasping spatial biology, but how does that connect to anti-aging or clean, beautiful skin—that's what everyone really wants to know. Do you think this can be applied to skin rejuvenation and such? I think so. As we talked about before, good classes and bad classes, they improved. But when we say they improved, did the lower performers improve, or did the good performers get even better? Or did we approach the lower performers, they worked hard, and the good performers worked harder and improved?—we can understand all these details. Until now, cosmetics and whether they worked or not—people would say it worked on someone, but you'd think 'really?' You read reviews and see ads at the bottom saying 'something or other,' so there's a lot of that. But with this spatial communication, we can see things improved, so we're doctors and scientists. As scientists, if we can understand all that, it's truly real. Right. It's not easy to communicate this to the general public, but if you could help bridge that gap. Well, cosmetics and medicine have been separated until now. But when you think of aging as a disease, then doctors and scientists need to research that. So I think it's wonderful that you professors are researching the possibilities even in cosmetics. That's one expression of your curiosity. Right. We talked a bit about aging earlier. Historically, aging was seen as inevitable, and researching it as a theme wasn't—it wasn't viewed positively. But now, this phenomenon of aging is scientifically very important. We recognized this about ten years ago. Doctors treat diseases, extend life. But recently, of course life extension matters, but preventing disease, not waiting until you're sick to treat it—keeping people healthy—is being scientifically clarified. Getting to understand that is entering a good era. I think it's an amazing time. Professor Yamanaka's work where differentiated cells revert—I think that's the starting point. Aged cells should be able to return to rejuvenated cells. I think it's a very hot topic. And that's not limited to skin—it should apply to all organs. Maybe, really, the next Nobel Prize will be for reversing aging. That's how important aging is as a topic. Please research aging, and before I age, thank you in advance. I'll do my best. Professor, thank you so much for today. Yes, so the skin symposium has ended. Really, I could keep listening to Professor Kamashima's talk—I felt like I learned a lot and found it so enjoyable. I really understood how cosmetic ingredients work on the skin through spatial biology. And knowing that once applied, it's communicated deep into the skin like electron buttons—that was so enlightening. Cosmetics really do give our skin such wonderful benefits—I felt confident about that, so I'm determined to work hard on skincare starting today! So on this channel, we share the scientific side of beauty discussions like this, so please subscribe if you'd like. Well then, see you next time. Goodbye. I'm looking forward to taking time with my skincare routine. I feel rejuvenated. You look rejuvenated, right? I feel rejuvenated. There was a pause, right?
