Hello everyone, this is Tomone. Today, the Soy Milk Isoflavone line from the ever-popular brand 'Nameraka Honpo' was renewed on February 8th, so I wanted to be one of the first to explain exactly what has changed, which is why I'm making this video.
Nameraka Honpo's Soy Milk Isoflavone actually has several different series—there's a moisturizing type, a whitening type, an anti-aging type, and so on. The one that was renewed this time is the series focused mainly on moisturizing.
Here's what the previous packaging looked like, and here's what the renewed version looks like. The color of the contents hasn't changed much, but the bottle is now a bit whiter, and the logo has become a little sharper.
It's not just the appearance that's been upgraded—the contents have actually been upgraded too. To begin with, the reason this Soy Milk Isoflavone series is so popular is that, despite being affordable, it really delivers solid moisturizing power.
The biggest appeal of its moisturizing ability, as written on the package, comes from the fermented and concentrated extract made from a domestic soybean variety called 'Fukuyutaka.' Inside this fermented, concentrated liquid are the isoflavones found in soy milk, and these isoflavones help moisturize the skin—that was the original concept behind this product before the renewal.
So how has it evolved this time? Of course, this soy milk fermented liquid is still included. But now it also contains something one level up: 'high-purity soy milk isoflavone.'
Some of you might think, 'Isn't that the same thing?' Indeed, when you see 'soy milk fermented liquid' and 'high-purity soy milk isoflavone' listed, you might wonder what the difference is. But honestly, even though they sound similar, the difference is like comparing a first grader to a sixth grader—that's how significant the upgrade is.
So what exactly is this high-purity isoflavone? Well, the soy milk fermented liquid from before was essentially an extract made by fermenting Fukuyutaka soybeans. Since it's a liquid extracted after fermentation, the isoflavones themselves are present, but because it has gone through fermentation, they end up somewhat diluted. Of course, the active ingredient—isoflavone—is still there, but in order to extract it more thoroughly, they first made soy milk from domestic Fukuyutaka soybeans, then froze and crushed it to extract only the high-purity isoflavones.
They may seem similar, but they're different. The fermented liquid is a bit more diluted, whereas this new version contains high-purity isoflavones.
Actually, what we simply call 'isoflavone' is not just one thing—there are said to be 10 to 12 different types. Among these, when extracted through fermentation, some types may end up in lower concentrations or be unstable and easily broken down, even though they have a strong moisturizing effect.
However, by making soy milk through concentration rather than fermentation, there's a higher chance that these unstable-but-highly-moisturizing isoflavones can remain intact without breaking down. Isn't that amazing?
In fact, if you compare the ingredient list, before the renewal it only listed 'soy milk fermented liquid,' but now it lists both 'soy milk isoflavone' and 'soy milk fermented liquid'—meaning the ingredient name 'soy milk isoflavone' is now explicitly stated.
This is actually a big deal. Even cosmetics that claim to 'contain soy milk or isoflavones' typically wouldn't be allowed to directly list 'soy milk isoflavone' like this. That's because, until now, it's been very difficult to extract and formulate high-purity soy milk isoflavones. Since isoflavones come in many different types, as I mentioned, and some are prone to breaking down, unless all of them are fully accounted for, you wouldn't be allowed to call it 'isoflavone.' 'Soy milk fermented liquid' would be fine, but if you write 'high-purity' or 'isoflavone,' all of those roughly ten-plus types need to be properly included, or it would get rejected.
So the fact that they can now write 'soy milk isoflavone' is proof that all of those ten-plus types are properly included. This is likely proof that Nameraka Honpo applied for and received approval to use the ingredient name 'soy milk isoflavone.'
I've made cosmetics myself before, and getting approval for an ingredient and passing the review process takes a lot of time and effort. But since Nameraka Honpo has been continuously researching soy milk isoflavone cosmetics, I always felt they would eventually incorporate this kind of 'soy milk isoflavone' ingredient—so seeing them do it at this particular timing genuinely impressed me.
Honestly, the texture itself hasn't changed all that much. This is just my personal impression, but if the texture, scent, or feel on the skin changed drastically, it might upset existing fans of the original product. So rather than a dramatic, easily noticeable change, I think they intentionally kept the immediate skin feel about the same, while the moisturizing effect—the kind you notice gradually with continued use—has been improved. It seems like a deliberate choice so that people wouldn't feel like 'this doesn't feel like the same product anymore' after the renewal.
But even though it seems unchanged at first, I think you'll start to notice the difference the more you use it continuously. That's probably because of this new ingredient, 'soy milk isoflavone,' being included for the first time.
Soy milk fermented liquid and soy milk isoflavone might seem similar at a glance, but you should think of them as having very different concentrations. The fact that they went to such lengths with research and even registered a new ingredient name for a product you can buy for around 1,000 yen really shows Nameraka Honpo's dedication and passion behind this renewal.
So that's it for today—I did a deep dive into what exactly changed with the renewal of Nameraka Honpo's beloved Soy Milk Isoflavone. Once again, this renewal made me feel just how amazing Japanese researchers and Japanese cosmetic development truly are.
