Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori. Now that the new year has begun, I'd like to go over five things about beautiful skin that I want to reconfirm. When making New Year's resolutions, I want you to firmly commit to these for beautiful skin throughout this year. Please think of this like a New Year's resolution, and watch until the end. First, "Be mindful of avoiding friction, but don't be overly obsessed with it." You might wonder what that means. On this channel, I've consistently said that there are three things you shouldn't do for beautiful skin: dryness, sun damage, and friction. This has become so widely spread by YouTubers and magazines that some people now take an extreme "don't touch your face at all" stance. This is going too far. I even made a video correcting this, but it still hasn't been widely understood—some people are so afraid of friction that they're scared to touch their face, wash their face, apply cream, or even apply foundation. Of course, friction is bad. Rubbing harshly causes inflammation, which can lead to pigmentation, and excessively rubbing your face can burden the skin and cause sagging. However, gently touching, slightly pulling, or being gentle is different from rubbing. Stroking and rubbing are not the same thing. While you should be mindful of friction, being overly cautious can prevent you from properly removing sebum, leading to dullness or improperly cleansed skin. Please remember again what "avoiding friction" really means—that stroking and rubbing are different. Second, "Moisturize appropriately." This relates to preventing dryness mentioned earlier. Many people believe proper moisturizing means always using toner, milky lotion, and cream. But moisturizing involves two things: providing water and sealing it in with oil. Depending on your skin type—for example, if you naturally produce a lot of sebum—toner alone might be enough since your own sebum acts as the seal. If such a person over-moisturizes with milky lotion and cream on top, the excess oil can clog pores and cause dullness. Conversely, if you have enough water but not enough oil, milky lotion alone won't moisturize properly, and toner without a proper seal from cream might not be enough either. You can only find out what your skin needs by trying it yourself. Apply toner, wait a bit, and if it still feels insufficient, add milky lotion; if still dry, add cream. Rather than following a fixed routine every day, it's important to assess how much moisture you need on that particular day. Not everyone needs toner, milky lotion, and cream all together—this also changes with your physical condition and the season. Reconsidering what moisturizing you truly need can lead to beautiful skin. Third, "Create a map of your face." This relates to moisturizing as well. Your face has areas that are oily, dry, and neutral, clearly divided. You might think you only need toner because your T-zone is oily and prone to acne, but your eye area might actually be quite dry and wrinkled. Such areas need cream applied locally, while areas rubbed by masks that accumulate dead skin cells need exfoliation—but the areas above the mask might not need such intensive care. So applying scrubs or pore care products to your entire face may not be necessary. We tend to want to use cosmetics on our whole face, but applying products to specific areas is also very important. By creating a mental "map" of your face—noting which areas are dry, which have clogged pores, and which are oily with open pores—you can determine the appropriate places for moisturizing and exfoliation. You don't need to stare at your face intensely every day, but having a general sense of your face's map, like "this area tends to be dry" or "this area is oily," is helpful. Fourth, "Don't use too many cosmetic products." Watching YouTube, I often see people using three or four serums at once. But skincare items aren't necessarily better in greater quantity. If you want to use serums, it's best to limit yourself to one or two items. Use it consistently for a month, and if you don't feel results, switch to something else; if you do feel results, continue a bit longer. I myself see so many great cosmetics that I want to use them all, but as the saying goes, "too much of a good thing is as bad as too little." Because of my job, I sometimes need to try many products, which is a bit conflicting for me personally. But if that's not your situation, it's important to use one item thoroughly for a month, morning and night. Don't increase your items too much—keep serums to about two at most, and beyond that, add toner, milky lotion, or cream based on the moisturizing you personally need. Finally, the fifth point: "Apply sunscreen." No matter what year it is or what happens in the future, I will never tell you that you don't need to apply sunscreen. Please never skip sunscreen, under any circumstances. Even if you wear sunscreen as your base, getting some sun exposure is proof that you're living your life. When that happens, you can use whitening products to help recover. But if you get sunburned recklessly without any protection, no matter how good your cosmetics are, it won't make much difference. In 2023, please make sure to apply sunscreen properly to prevent sun damage, and get closer to beautiful skin. Thank you for watching until the end today. I hope this video becomes a stepping stone toward beautiful skin for everyone in 2023. I'll see you in the next video. Goodbye.
