Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori. A little while ago, I posted on YouTube's Community tab asking for questions—about beauty or even life advice—that I could turn into a video. In just about five days, I received nearly 200 questions. Thank you so much! Since answering all of them would be difficult, my husband and children helped select some questions for me to answer today. Let's get started with my son, daughter, and husband helping out. **Q1: I confessed my feelings and got rejected. I can't stop thinking about her no matter what I do, and I feel too down to do anything. My mental state is a mess. Please give me some advice.** The younger you are, the bigger the damage from heartbreak seems to be—probably because romance takes up a larger portion of your life at that age. I've been rejected many times myself, and each time, I threw myself into things I loved. Medically speaking, after emotional turmoil comes anger and frustration, and then gradually acceptance—it's a psychological process. You're probably still in a state of panic right now, but time will heal it. Try to turn this into motivation to study or improve yourself, thinking "I'll show them." Someday you'll look back and think, "That happened once." Consider this a page in your youth and keep going. **Q2: I'll turn 50 next month and I'm single. I still want to find romance, but there are no opportunities to meet anyone. The people I like are either much younger—sometimes young enough to be my child—or already taken. How can I find a partner at this age?** I'd suggest changing your daily routine. If your life is just commuting between home and work, the people you meet will always be limited. Try taking a different route home, joining a hobby group, or participating in an online community. Adding something new to your life—not necessarily for the sake of meeting someone, but something you genuinely enjoy—is the best approach. **Q3: I had severe acne in middle school and was bullied for it. I didn't understand about scarring at the time and desperately popped my pimples, which left craters. It's become a complex for me. I want to become a beautician, but due to a chronic illness I can't work much and can't afford expensive treatments. Is there anything gentle I can do myself?** Acne scars are generally either indented or discolored. Indented scars are difficult to improve without cosmetic procedures. However, discoloration makes indentations look deeper, so using brightening skincare can make the unevenness less noticeable from a distance, even though the actual depth doesn't change. I've experienced this myself—after using brightening care, my scars are still visible up close but much less noticeable from afar. I'd recommend trying brightening skincare products. **Q4: Is it bad for someone who hasn't reached the specified age to use products labeled "for ages 30+" or "for ages 45+"? I'm 25 and interested in one such product.** Products categorized by age tend to have richer textures because skin produces less oil and becomes drier as we age. If you have dry skin, it's fine to use products meant for older age groups. However, if you have oily skin, it might cause breakouts. Anti-aging ingredients themselves won't cause your skin to become "lazy" just because you're younger—that's a myth. Just be mindful of the texture when choosing. **Q5: Some people say we should get sunlight for vitamin D. Isn't it enough to get vitamin D through diet or supplements nowadays?** Vitamin D is the only vitamin that can be synthesized through sun exposure, and there's no major difference between that and supplement intake in terms of the vitamin itself. However, as a dermatologist, I consider the risk of photoaging to be significant. UV exposure can cause spots, wrinkles, and sagging. I recommend getting vitamin D through supplements and limiting sun exposure to just your hands and feet if you want some sunlight. **Q6: Is there a "correct" way to behave as a middle-aged woman?** This is something I struggle with too. I once had someone point out that calling myself "Sensei" sounded arrogant, which made me realize that as we age, our mere presence can come across as intimidating. Even if the words are the same, tone and expression can completely change how something is received. That said, it's impossible to be liked by everyone, so some level of acceptance is necessary. Avoid things that are genuinely inappropriate, but otherwise, mutual understanding between generations is important. Looking back, strict mentors often turn out to be the ones we're most grateful for. **Q7: You mentioned not treating your child like "just a kid." What specific things do you do? I have a 4-year-old son.** I avoid baby talk and speak to him as I would an adult. I firmly say no when something is truly not allowed, but I try not to over-warn about every little danger, since that can prevent children from learning to do things on their own. I only step in when it's genuinely dangerous, otherwise I let him explore and grow independently. For example, when my son wanted to go to Kabuki alone, I was worried, but I let him go by himself, respecting his wishes (though I secretly kept an eye on him—that's a secret between us). **Q8: Can skincare products remove age spots?** Skincare products are essentially for prevention. If you want to completely eliminate a spot, laser treatment is the only real option. Combining skincare with cosmetic dermatology treatments like lasers is the best approach. **Q9: I've been struggling with palmoplantar pustulosis for over 10 years, including joint pain. I've tried various treatments, but I still can't do without steroids.** Palmoplantar pustulosis causes blisters on the palms and soles and can sometimes cause joint pain. A biologic drug approved in 2018 has shown promise, as research suggests this condition may be related to immune dysfunction. I've seen patients improve significantly with this treatment at my previous workplace. I'd recommend discussing biologics with your doctor. **Q10: I've suffered from folliculitis for years after laser hair removal. Is there any way to prevent it?** I've experienced this myself. It commonly occurs on the jawline, shoulders, and elbows, and the exact cause isn't fully understood. I'd recommend pausing laser treatments and switching to a Yag laser, which rarely causes folliculitis, though it can be more painful and isn't usually the first choice. Switching to Yag laser resolved my folliculitis on my shoulders and jawline. **Q11: If you had to choose just one all-in-one skincare product, what would it be?** That's a tough one, but I'd choose Shiseido's Aqua Label all-in-one gel. It comes in yellow, red, and blue variations with whitening ingredients, retinyl palmitate, and moisturizing components, all containing D-amino acids developed in collaboration with Kyushu University. This choice reflects my own skin type—oily with a desire for both brightening and anti-aging care—so the ideal product may differ depending on your skin type and concerns. **Q12: If you could only spend money on one skincare item, what would it be?** Sunscreen. No matter what other skincare you do, it's meaningless if you don't protect against UV damage. For me, sunscreen is the most essential part of skincare. **Q13: What's the secret to a happy marriage?** Husband: Even close relationships need boundaries and respect. Since getting married, we've continued to speak politely to each other at home. Me: Not interfering too much, maintaining a healthy sense of distance, and trusting each other completely. Thank you so much for all the wonderful questions—nearly 200 in total! I couldn't answer all of them, but I tried to respond as concisely as possible. I usually do live Q&A sessions every Wednesday, but since not everyone can watch live, I'm glad this format worked out. Thank you all so much for your cooperation. If this is well received, I'd love to make more videos like this. To those whose questions weren't selected this time, please feel free to submit them again next time. See you all in the next video—goodbye! Thank you very much.
