Hello everyone. I'm Arata Tomori, an internal medicine and dermatologist doctor. Today, though it might sound a bit exaggerated, I'd like to introduce items that I feel truly changed my life after using them. There are often many cases where using an item you didn't know about before changes how you see the world. These are things I knew existed but thought I didn't really need, yet once I actually used them, they changed the quality of my life and even my outlook on life. So please watch until the end. The first item is the Bear Signature Shorts. I actually use these myself, but since I obviously can't show you a used one, I bought a new one. At first glance, they might look like boxer shorts and seem a bit large, but when you wear them, they don't feel that bulky at all. These are absorbent period panties worn during menstruation. Did you know that a period lasts about 5 days on average, and during that time, you use about 25 disposable pads? That's roughly 25 to 30 pads depending on the person. Since periods usually start around age 12-13 and menopause occurs around age 50, that means about 40 years of menstruation. So over a lifetime, how many pads do you think a woman uses in total? It's about 12,000 pads! That's an incredible amount. You might think it's just pads, but men probably don't realize how difficult and troublesome it is to find the right timing to change them. You generally need to change every 2-3 hours, but during my residency or when I was on night duty, patients kept coming nonstop, and I couldn't find the timing to change, which sometimes led to minor leaks on my underwear. Even now, when I go to the park with my child, it's hard to ask my child to wait at the restroom while I change my pad. When you're seeing patients for long hours, it's really difficult to find the right timing. Until now, I only knew about pads, so I thought there was no choice but to use high-capacity ones. But as we get older, our skin becomes more sensitive to friction, and the delicate area tends to dry out more, so wearing pads constantly can cause itching or irritation from friction. When I was wondering if there was something better, I discovered these absorbent panties. A while back, cloth pads became popular—these are essentially disposable pads made of fabric that you carry around and change multiple times, which is also troublesome, so I never used them. I assumed absorbent panties would be the same, requiring frequent changes, but surprisingly, with the Bear Signature Shorts, one pair is enough for an entire day. On the first or second day of my period, I can wear just this one pair all day, and unless I happen to go to the bathroom for other reasons, I don't need to go out of my way to change a pad. I just wear them in the morning and wash them lightly at night. There's an extremely absorbent material covering the delicate area all the way to the back, so just squeezing that area while washing gets it fairly clean. You might think that alone wouldn't change your life, but not having to go buy pads is truly liberating from that hassle. You can also wear these while sleeping since the absorbent material covers all the way to the back, preventing the back leaks that commonly happen during sleep, so you don't have to worry about staining white sheets—great for sleepovers during your period too. Most importantly for me, I always missed the timing to change pads while seeing patients at the clinic, so in that sense, this truly changed my life. Recently, absorbent underwear has been gaining attention as the next feminine hygiene product after pads and tampons, so if you haven't tried them yet, I really think it's worth giving up your hesitation and trying them. Honestly, I initially found absorbent underwear a bit off-putting. It's similar to how masks work—when something wet touches your skin, it can cause irritation. That's why I never really liked cloth pads. I hated the feeling of having a pad stained with light bleeding stay on for a while, whereas with disposable pads, the polymer material absorbs it properly, keeping the surface dry. So while I had those thoughts, I kept using disposable pads. I assumed absorbent panties would be similar to cloth pads—that the surface would get wet and not absorb properly like polymer material, causing itching. But that wasn't the case at all. True to their name, these have a special absorbent material that really absorbs well. I heard they were originally developed for urinary incontinence, and they absorb that thoroughly, so they don't feel sticky like cloth pads. I used to dislike cloth pads because they sometimes caused rashes, but my assumption that these would be the same completely changed after using them. You might feel resistant at first, but I think trying them once will change your mind. The next life-changing item is the Est Bio-Mimesis Veil. This is like a beauty device—essentially a machine that creates a second layer of skin. Est is a cosmetics brand by Kao, a company that handles fibers not just for cosmetics but also for diapers and cleaning products. This item was born from applying that fiber technology to cosmetics. It contains a special cosmetic polymer solution that gets sprayed onto the skin as extremely fine threads, less than one micrometer thick. When sprayed, it adheres to the skin like a layer of skin itself. Just creating this film has significant benefits for the skin. Why is applying a film so beneficial? Because there's a treatment called moist wound healing that we dermatologists are very familiar with. Imagine a greenhouse—it maintains consistent humidity and temperature. This device recreates that kind of environment on your skin. Fundamentally, the skin's barrier function is crucial. This barrier function comes from intercellular lipids located between keratinocytes—things like ceramides—which form a lamellar structure of alternating layers of oil and water. This lamellar structure sandwiches moisture, preventing it from escaping. This lamellar structure of intercellular lipids is extremely important for the skin's barrier function. You apply a specialized serum containing this lamellar structure, then spray this veil over it, creating a film that locks the lamellar structure right onto your skin. The fiber that comes out of this machine is a single, extremely fine thread. Have you ever noticed how, when you dip a thread into water, the water travels up through the thread and comes out the other side? That's called capillary action. So this film absorbs the serum with the lamellar structure, creating a second skin that keeps your skin continuously hydrated. I'm sure this is hard to understand just from words, so let me demonstrate. I applied the serum here earlier, and you can see this white film that has formed—this is the film. It's white right now because I just did it, but over time it becomes clear. Inside this film, the serum stays saturated, and it won't come off even if you move. Let's see what happens when I peel it off. Look, there was this thin film covering the area. Essentially, while applying a serum with a lamellar structure similar to skin, that serum doesn't evaporate but continuously circulates within this capillary-action-powered second skin, keeping your skin moisturized like wearing a mask. But unlike sheet masks, which have poor breathability, this one lets your skin breathe like real skin, so it doesn't get stuffy. Yet it maintains constant hydration throughout the night. So when you wake up and peel this off, your skin feels completely hydrated and replenished. When I first saw this at a launch event, I thought, "What is this? It seems too complicated," and felt like using it morning and night would be a hassle. But since I work in the beauty industry, I decided to try it despite the high price, and it truly changed my concept of moisturizing. It's like it boosts the skin's original healthy function rather than just adding something external—it changes the plumpness of your skin. I've received or bought various beauty devices with RF or EMS functions before, but I rarely continued using them. Honestly, though, this included serum is also excellent—I've gone through several bottles already. Est has done extensive research on ceramides, and since the lamellar structure is centered on ceramides, this serum is packed with that research and development. When I'm extremely busy or traveling, I sometimes bring just this serum alone because it's that good on its own. I'm sure explaining this alone won't fully convey it, but since using it truly changed my concept of skincare, I wanted to introduce it so you could all experience it too. And the third item that changed my outlook on life is the AirPods Pro. Many of you might think, "Everyone has those already," and I used to think the same—that they were just wireless earbuds and I didn't really need them. But wearing these lets you move around freely. Until now, watching YouTube or similar content meant being tethered by a cord, forcing me to sit still like watching TV. But with sound coming through my ears, I can move around and multitask while listening. When I started my YouTube channel, I thought a lot about this—I originally assumed videos were meant to be watched visually. But busy people really don't have time to keep staring at a screen, which means less time for reading magazines or books, and therefore less time to absorb knowledge. That's why I started designing my YouTube content so that just listening to my voice would be enough to understand it. I think this mindset came from encountering the AirPods Pro. With these, I can look at my child's face while still absorbing the content just by listening to my voice, and I can gain knowledge through sound alone during commutes or school runs without needing to constantly look at a screen. This truly expanded my life—I can watch educational YouTubers while doing housework, or just listen to content I'm curious about without needing to watch anything. But I wondered if this was just my personal feeling, since I tend to exaggerate things. Recently, I gave a pair as a birthday present to Dr. Nishikawa, a senior figure in the women doctors' association, someone like the "Carousel Maki" of our group. I posted about it on Instagram too. At first, I was struggling with what to give her since she probably already has everything, and I didn't want to give something halfhearted that she wouldn't need. So I asked her, "Do you have AirPods?" and she said, "What are those? I don't really need them," adding that she doesn't really listen to anything and already has earphones. But I thought, this is exactly like how I used to think, so I insisted, saying "These are really great, trust me," and brought them to her clinic and set them up for her. Afterward, she said, "What is this? This is amazing! The sound quality is so high, and I can leave my phone somewhere else and still make calls, listen to music, and watch YouTube!" She said it changed her outlook on life too. So I don't think it's just me—I believe these can change many people's perspectives, which is why I decided to share this, even though it's a bit late. I personally own two pairs—one in a case my friend Shoko Kine made for me, and another that I share with my husband, though I put a sticker from my clinic on it to avoid mixing them up. I rotate between the two, using them so heavily that I really feel they've changed my life. Sorry for ending on a somewhat anticlimactic note. As I mentioned at the beginning, I believe you really can't understand many things until you try them yourself. Rather than assuming something is meaningless or unnecessary based on preconceived notions, approaching things with curiosity and trying them out can lead to unexpected discoveries and changes in your outlook on life. I'll continue to stay curious and absorb all kinds of new things, and if I find something truly wonderful, I'll be sure to share it with you all again. How did you find this video? On this channel, I try to explain beauty and health topics in an easy-to-understand way, so if you enjoyed this, please subscribe to the channel. See you in the next video. Goodbye.
