As the sun gets stronger, many of you may be concerned about skin brightening, mask-induced acne, and inner dryness all at the same time. Today, I'd like to introduce three serums that address each of these seasonal skin concerns. While there are many steps in skincare—toners, lotions, emulsions—serums are my go-to when I want to deliver a concentrated dose of active ingredients. Let me walk you through each one. 【Serum #1: Estée Lauder Perfectionist Pro Bright Serum】 This serum was released last year and has been reformulated this year with an additional key ingredient. Its main goal is to improve skin translucency, and its core approach focuses on activating skin autophagy. Autophagy is the skin's natural recycling system—it breaks down and removes unwanted substances. In the skin, this means breaking down and eliminating excess melanin. This process is carried out by phagocytic cells (cells that "eat" unwanted substances like melanin), which are activated and then break down the melanin internally. Estée Lauder's proprietary fermented ingredients support this process: Yeast Ferment activates the phagocytic cells, while Molasses Ferment (a specialized sugar-derived ingredient) boosts their ability to break down what they've consumed. The serum also contains a vitamin C derivative, which helps calm inflammation caused by UV exposure and suppresses melanin production. New this year is Algae Ferment—a soothing ingredient derived from algae extract. By calming skin inflammation, it prevents the signals that trigger melanin production in the first place.
