Nowadays, skincare products contain all sorts of active ingredients, but makeup products are also increasingly designed not just to make skin look beautiful, but to actually provide skincare benefits while you wear makeup. The most iconic example is sunscreen, but today I want to focus on makeup items other than sunscreen, ranging from drugstore finds to department store cosmetics. 【1】NARS Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder Released this year, this powder is said to be almost as popular as NARS's famous white liquid foundation. It looks white when you open the compact, but turns transparent once applied, giving a soft matte finish that controls shine and minimizes the look of pores. It combines round silica powder, which absorbs sebum effectively, with flat mica particles that reflect light for a natural glow—together creating a finish that blurs pores while still maintaining radiance. What's impressive is that this powder also contains niacinamide, an ingredient known for preventing skin irritation and UV-induced dark spots, and one that can be effectively incorporated into powder formulas. This is a product I personally use often for both its makeup and skincare benefits. 【2】Time Secret Mineral Pressed Powder (Original and New Medicated Version) This face powder went viral on social media and has recently been renewed as a medicated (quasi-drug) version, though the original is still available in some places. I use the shade Light Ochre, which has such strong coverage that I sometimes skip foundation entirely and just apply this over sunscreen or BB cream. The original version contained Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2, a peptide said to suppress the abnormal protein production triggered by UV damage, which is linked to wrinkle formation. The new medicated version no longer contains this peptide, but instead includes allantoin (which prevents skin irritation), along with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and hydrolyzed egg shell membrane—shifting the focus more toward anti-irritation and moisturizing benefits. Both versions are excellent, and it's great that this is an affordable product you can easily find at the drugstore. 【3】Maquillage Dramatic Essence Liquid (Foundation) Known for its long-lasting, humidity-resistant formula, this liquid foundation contains glycyrrhizinate... actually, Glycylglycine, an ingredient originally discovered by Shiseido for treating "funnel-shaped pores." This type of enlarged pore happens when free fatty acids in sebum cause inflammation, eroding the edges of the pore into a funnel shape. Glycylglycine helps suppress this inflammation caused by free fatty acids. Since sebum production increases during the day, applying this ingredient in the daytime makes a lot of sense for those concerned about pores and oiliness. This year, Maquillage also released a primer and a pressed powder containing glycylglycine. The powder has a lavender tint that helps cancel out sebum-related dullness. Using the foundation and powder together lets you double up on sebum absorption, radiance, and anti-inflammatory care. 【4】MIMC Melano Escape Shot CC (Concealer) This slightly firm concealer contains a vitamin C derivative called Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which helps suppress melanin production triggered by UV exposure. It also contains beneficial ingredients like arnica extract and rosemary extract. Since concealers are typically used to cover dark spots, and UV exposure during the day can worsen existing spots or create new ones nearby, it makes perfect sense to incorporate vitamin C into a daytime concealer. This is a great option for anyone looking to conceal dark spots or pores while also caring for their skin. 【5】Rice Lip Repair Balm I often use this lip balm during my Instagram Lives. It contains Rice Power No. 11, an ingredient known not just for moisturizing but for normalizing the skin's turnover cycle. Lips are especially prone to peeling when turnover is too rapid, so unlike products that simply create a protective film, this balm addresses the root cause. It's a bit pricier for a lip balm, but for people whose lips keep peeling no matter what they use, this has made a real difference—even the makeup artist I regularly work with loved it when I gave it as a gift, saying it's useful on many different sets. If chronic lip peeling is your issue and moisturizing alone hasn't solved it, this is well worth trying. So, what did you think?
