Hello everyone, this is Arata Tomori. When you hear the word "anti-aging," what image comes to mind? I think many people imagine things like erasing spots or wrinkles, but that's just superficial—it's not truly anti-aging in the real sense. What does true anti-aging actually mean? It means rejuvenating a certain part of your body. Today I want to tell you about the secret spot that, if you rejuvenate it, will rejuvenate everything else too. So if you're curious, please watch until the end. What is that spot? It's your blood vessels. Your entire body is crisscrossed with blood vessels, right? Oxygen and nutrients circulate throughout the body via the blood vessels. If your blood vessels deteriorate, your whole body deteriorates. There's been a lot of research specifically on skin and blood vessels. Shiseido and Osaka University conducted a joint twin study. Identical twins have the same genes, and it's often said that lifestyle and dietary habits change one's appearance—but this research actually found that differences in facial capillaries also affect appearance. Those with relatively healthy capillaries had higher collagen density inside the skin. People whose capillaries were adequately maintained also had higher oxygen saturation in the skin and firmer collagen density—meaning their skin was less prone to sagging. This research revealed that, which is pretty amazing, don't you think? It's also known that abnormal blood vessels are involved in the formation of spots (age spots). What this means is that in areas with spots, factors that promote blood vessel growth are increased. That factor is called VEGF, and apparently these are quite immature, abnormal blood vessels. When UV rays hit these abnormal vessels, a signal is sent out to produce melanin. This shows that abnormal blood vessels can cause errors like this. Another interesting finding is that Shiseido discovered that poor blood circulation causes sagging. There are deep blood vessels within the skin called dermal arteries. When blood flow to these decreases, the facial muscles don't receive enough nutrients. As a result, muscle mass decreases and fat fills in the gap, causing facial sagging. Isn't that unpleasant? Also, blood vessels exist in the dermis but not in the epidermis. So I used to think that blood flow was related to things like collagen, but not so much to the epidermis's moisture content or cell turnover. However, it turns out that the epidermis's stem cells may actually be controlled by the capillaries in the dermis. There are cells called pericytes that attach to capillaries, and it's been found that pericytes may migrate to the epidermis and transform into epidermal stem cells. It's not 100% confirmed, but there's a possibility. If capillaries decrease, epidermal stem cells also decrease, which slows down skin turnover. This means you lose that dewy, moisturized skin, and your barrier function weakens, leading to chronic inflammation—causing spots and dullness as well. Wouldn't you say it's not an exaggeration to claim that skin elasticity, sagging, spots, and dryness are all influenced by blood circulation? While it's important to apply various skincare ingredients, it's equally—if not more—important to build lifestyle habits that improve blood circulation. For example, carbonated skincare products or facial steamers can also help improve circulation. Also, when you talk with rich facial expressions, your muscles move, which improves blood flow. However, be careful with strange facial massage techniques, as they can actually cause wrinkles. So expressing yourself more animatedly during normal conversation is a good approach. Of course, it's not just about appearance. When blood vessels deteriorate, it can lead to strokes or heart attacks—blood vessels becoming blocked or rupturing. So by building dietary and exercise habits that improve blood circulation, I believe you can prevent these issues through lifestyle changes. Now let's talk about important lifestyle and dietary habits for staying youthful. First, diet. When cholesterol builds up inside blood vessels, it causes inflammation. Tiny injuries occur, leading to poor circulation and hardened blood vessels, among other issues. So reducing high-fat foods in your diet is a fundamental step. However, there's something many people overlook: reactive oxygen species (free radicals). Since blood carries oxygen throughout the body, it's a place where reactive oxygen species are easily generated. While cutting down on sugar and fat is important, it's equally important to eat antioxidant-rich foods that remove these reactive oxygen species. Vitamin C, polyphenols, green and yellow vegetables, and eating fruits with the skin on as much as possible are all beneficial. Of course, Japanese cuisine is good too, but lately Mediterranean cuisine has been gaining attention—using olive oil instead of other oils, eating more fish than meat, and consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables. There's data suggesting that this Mediterranean-style diet reduces cellular damage, so if you get tired of Japanese food, trying Mediterranean cuisine might be a good option. Next is exercise. Simply walking improves blood circulation. Rather than going to the gym for strength training, walking is key. Many people spend a lot of time sitting, so at minimum, try to stand up and move around for about 5 minutes every hour, take the stairs, and generally try to move your body. If that's not possible, doing squats works too—since the muscles in your legs and glutes are quite large, this really promotes blood flow. Also, if your calf muscles become stiff, their pumping function weakens, so stretching your Achilles tendon is important. For women, wearing compression stockings or socks can also help prevent blood from pooling. Massage is another good option. After exercising, getting a massage further promotes circulation. The best approach is to exercise to improve blood flow, but if that's difficult, using a massage device on your shoulders or legs is also beneficial. The quickest method is taking a bath. Your blood vessels dilate and circulation improves, so adding carbonated bath salts can further promote blood flow. Just be sure to drink water when doing this—if your body is dehydrated, your blood can become thick and sluggish. So make sure to drink plenty of water while exercising. Finally, stress management. When you're under a lot of stress, your peripheral nerves constrict, which reduces blood flow. Being in a constant state of tension or stress isn't good for you. So please watch my YouTube videos to relax, and make sure to do things that help release stress. So, what did you think? Please take care of your blood vessels—the most important part of your body—so that you can stay youthful both in appearance and internally. Thank you for watching until the end today. I'll see you in the next video. Goodbye!
