Hello everyone! This is Tomo Colada.
Today I'd like to introduce sheet masks recommended for different skin concerns. I often go researching for my YouTube videos, and when I visit drugstores, I sometimes come across products that make me think "Wow, they've released something like this!" Today I want to explain these products in detail and talk about what skin type they're actually suited for.
Sometimes the packaging says one thing, but I think a product might actually be better suited for a different skin concern than what's written. I'll be sharing my own perspective on this, so please watch until the end.
【1. Rihaku Brightening Mask】
This one is labeled for "sensitive skin," but let me explain my thoughts on that.
The key feature of this mask is that it contains four types of herbal extracts, including Centella asiatica (tsubokusa) extract. This has anti-inflammatory properties, which is probably why it's labeled for sensitive skin. However, what caught my attention was the AHA ingredients—malic acid, lactic acid, and lactobacillus—which work to soften the keratin layer. It's not quite peeling-level, but it does soften the stratum corneum.
For sensitive skin, this kind of exfoliating ingredient generally isn't ideal, especially in sheet mask form. That said, this AHA action of softening the keratin layer does help boost skin clarity/brightness. When the stratum corneum becomes thickened, cell turnover slows down, which not only causes dullness but also reduces the skin's ability to produce intercellular lipids (natural moisturizing factors), leading to reduced hydration as well. So for those wanting to boost radiance and hydration, this AHA formulation is actually quite good.
Another feature is three types of ceramides plus propolis extract (honey-derived). We don't know exactly where the propolis or honey comes from, so I can't say for certain, but honey is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and there's emerging data suggesting it may promote collagen and hyaluronic acid production—so this is a nice addition.
While the combination of herbal extracts and ceramides may be why it's marketed for sensitive skin, personally I think the standout feature is the AHA promoting turnover and boosting radiance. It also contains a vitamin C derivative, but this seems to be included mainly as an antioxidant for the product itself rather than for whitening purposes, so likely in a small amount.
So overall, I'd say this mask is mainly about boosting radiance, with added hydration benefits from propolis, honey, and ceramides. I think it's better suited not so much for sensitive skin, but for normal skin types dealing with dullness who want both hydration and brightness.
【2. Lululun Hydra V Mask】
This one promotes "less noticeable pores, hydrated glowing skin" and contains 7 types of vitamins. Looking at the ingredients, it really is impressive.
It contains stable retinyl palmitate, vitamin B (panthenol), and niacinamide. It also contains a plant-derived ingredient called bakuchiol, sometimes called "botanical retinol," which works similarly to retinol in promoting collagen and elastin production. So I'd say this formula is mainly geared toward improving firmness.
It also contains three types of vitamin C. There's the standard vitamin C derivative (ascorbyl glucoside), which helps suppress melanin production. Another interesting one is a vitamin C-peptide compound (with a long name) designed to help penetrate deeper into the skin. There's also a fat-soluble vitamin C derivative (similar to the well-known APPS), which dissolves well in both water and oil for enhanced penetration.
With not just standard vitamin C derivatives but also these specially formulated, highly penetrating and long-lasting vitamin C ingredients, this mask should offer good whitening effects as well as sebum control—making it potentially good for pore concerns.
It also contains hydrating ingredients like polyquaternium-51 and tocopherol, along with chamomile extract and tea leaf extract as highlighted ingredients. While the package says "less noticeable pores," I think this is more suited for sagging pores rather than clogged pores. I'd recommend this for those with oily skin that tends toward inner dryness, who want to control sebum while adding hydration.
【3. Pure Reti-Vita Essence Mask】
This has a yellow package similar to the Lululun mask, but it's a different product. It's also marketed for "pore care" and is vitamin-focused. It seems pore-care products tend to have yellow packaging—maybe because yellow evokes vitamin C imagery.
Like the previous product, this contains both a vitamin C derivative and a retinol derivative, and the resemblance isn't just visual—the ingredients are similar too. The retinol derivative is the same retinyl palmitate, but the vitamin C derivative here is APPS (a fat-soluble type similar to before), offering even better penetration and longevity.
Additionally, this contains a substantial amount of niacinamide, so I'd say this one leans more toward brightening effects. It also contains dipotassium glycyrrhizate and allantoin, both offering strong anti-inflammatory benefits. It's also non-comedogenic tested and patch tested.
This mask is good not just for pore care, but also for situations like "I got sun exposure today, it's not stinging, but I'm worried about chronic inflammation deep in the skin that could lead to dark spots later" (note: this isn't for actively stinging sunburn). It would be great to use after sun exposure to prevent spots before they form, or in the morning if you know you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors that day.
【4. Pure Clear Essence Mask】
This is from the same brand as the Reti-Vita Essence Mask but with a different formula, marketed for "dryness, dullness, firmness, and radiance care."
This one also lists niacinamide, and based on the ingredient list, it appears to contain a similar amount as the previous product. Additionally, it contains galactomyces ferment filtrate. If that sounds familiar, yes—the famous SK-II Pitera is also a galactomyces ferment filtrate. It's not identical, of course, but fermented ingredients typically contain amino acids and polysaccharides that boost hydration and barrier function.
It also contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid for hydration, plus a small amount of Centella asiatica extract (though not in large quantities). It also contains arbutin and allantoin, which can help prevent inflammation-induced dark spots. With niacinamide also included, this seems to be a formula that combines hydration with brightening/whitening care.
While it likely hasn't received official whitening active ingredient certification, I think this is a great sheet mask for this season, when you need both hydration and protection against UV-induced dryness and pigmentation—perfect for combining moisture with brightening care.
【5. Clear Turn Better Dance Sleeping Moisture Mask】
The packaging boasts things like "hydration bomb" and "8 minutes of intensive care equals 8 hours of sleep-level hydration." And true to that claim, the formula is packed with intensive hydrating ingredients.
It contains Sacran, derived from Suizenji nori (a type of algae), said to have five times the moisturizing power of hyaluronic acid. This ingredient softens the keratin layer while drawing in and retaining moisture for a long time—offering both penetration and moisture retention.
It also contains hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and white fungus (Tremella) polysaccharides, which similarly offer strong moisture retention like Sacran. People with dry skin often have reduced "moisture retention capacity"—meaning even if you add moisture, it evaporates quickly if your skin can't hold onto it. This product focuses on boosting that retention capacity, which is a major strength.
Of course it contains ceramides too, but the added moisture also helps boost your skin's own ability to produce intercellular lipids, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides—so it's not just about holding in what's applied, but also supporting your skin's natural ability to generate its own moisture.
As for the "8 hours of sleep" claim—lack of sleep really does dehydrate the skin, and dehydrated skin can look slightly puffy or off. Packing moisture into the stratum corneum in just 8 minutes to mimic the hydration effect of a full night's sleep makes sense. This would be great for those with severe dry skin, those looking tired from lack of sleep, or for use right after waking up (before your skincare routine) during this season when air conditioning tends to dry out the skin overnight.
【Summary】
Today I introduced five sheet masks. Each one was really well thought out, with impressive ingredient combinations.
As a general tip for using sheet masks—don't leave them on too long. For hydration purposes, using them in the morning is great, and they're also good to use on days when you expect a lot of sun exposure. There are so many affordable sheet masks available, so please check them out at your local drugstore.
Thank you for watching until the end today. If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up. And if you have a favorite sheet mask you love using, please share it in the comments—I'd love to hear about it!
See you in the next video. Goodbye!
