Hello everyone. I'm Arata Tomori. Today, I'd like to talk about menopause. I'm 46 years old now, and I think I'm at the age when menopause could be starting. So based on my own physical condition and the measures I'm taking for menopause, I'd like to explain today what happens during menopause and how to deal with it, including things I'm doing myself. Even if you think it doesn't concern you, or you're not that age yet, or you're a man, knowing from the start that these things happen and taking preventive measures while you're young are important. So regardless of age and gender, I hope you'll all watch until the end. So, what exactly is menopause? Everyone seems to have a scary image of it, but in a human's lifetime, there are stages like infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and menopause is just another life stage that comes next, followed by old age. So menopause is similar to puberty in terms of duration. It's just a transition period. As for timing, on average, menopause refers to approximately five years before and after the end of menstruation—so about 10 years total. During menopause, a female hormone called estrogen decreases. Estrogen is produced by the ovaries. Normally, the brain sends signals to the ovaries to produce estrogen, but as the ovaries' function weakens, they stop producing it. When the body senses low estrogen, it sends stronger and stronger signals demanding more production. But no matter how many signals reach the ovaries, they can't produce estrogen anymore. These signals go to the brain repeatedly, affecting other systems, which causes various symptoms known as menopausal symptoms. So not everyone experiences menopausal symptoms. When looking back, some people might realize they had mild symptoms they didn't recognize, while others experience severe symptoms. It depends on which systems are affected by the brain's efforts to stimulate estrogen production. What kinds of symptoms occur? The autonomic nervous system becomes disrupted. When this happens, temperature regulation fails, causing hot flashes—where the upper body sweats profusely while the lower body is very cold. Autonomic dysfunction also causes severe shoulder stiffness and headaches. It also causes insomnia. Sleep disruption is related to temperature regulation, and many people experience night sweats—not normal sweating, but drenching sweats that completely soak bedding. Estrogen also protects joints, so some people experience stiffness in their fingers and difficulty moving joints—these are also symptoms of menopausal syndrome. Additionally, estrogen increases skin moisture, so people may experience dry mouth and vaginal dryness, which can cause odor concerns in the intimate area. While these symptoms don't directly threaten life, shoulder stiffness, headaches, and profuse sweating that soaks clothing reduce quality of life, so it's important to address them properly. However, some things can actually be life-threatening. When estrogen decreases, cholesterol levels tend to increase. Female hormones suppress the rise of harmful LDL cholesterol. When estrogen levels drop, harmful cholesterol increases. People may develop arterial sclerosis even if they're not overweight or eating fatty foods. Advanced arterial sclerosis can lead to stroke or heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases. So people in the menopausal period and beyond need to pay attention to their cholesterol levels and bone health. Actually, bones are constantly being broken down and rebuilt. When estrogen decreases, the breakdown process accelerates while rebuilding slows, making bones brittle. This increases fracture risk, which can lead to being bedridden. So it's important to strengthen bones while young and regularly check cholesterol levels to understand your normal values and potential risks. As for me, I'm 46, and the average age of menopause for Japanese women is around 50 or 51. If menopause occurs at 50, the five years before that would be from age 45 to 50, so menopause can start around 45 or 46. I haven't reached menopause yet, but I'm noticing symptoms I suspect might be early menopause—mainly shoulder stiffness and, when I'm busy and sleep-deprived, body temperature regulation issues and night sweats. Otherwise, I regularly check my cholesterol and bone density, and thankfully, there are no problems. But I am aware of these changes. So what am I doing about it? For bone health, I exercise regularly. Bones become stronger when pressure and load are applied. Of course, we can't prevent estrogen from decreasing gradually. To properly strengthen bones, I apply load through exercise, take calcium, and take vitamin D to improve calcium absorption. Though vitamin D is generated from sun exposure, I also take it through supplements. I also receive personal training once a week and walk regularly. On days I can't walk, I do leg raises while sitting to apply pressure to my heels and stimulate them. Another thing: since rapidly decreasing estrogen is a stress on the body, I try to decrease it gradually. While I don't use hormone replacement therapy, I take something similar to female hormones. I had my third child at 41, so around two years later at age 43, I started taking Otsuka Pharmaceutical's Equol—two tablets morning and evening. Another thing surprised me—I mentioned on YouTube this product called Semiflora for intimate area care containing lactic acid bacteria. The intimate area becomes drier around menopause, and vaginal flora changes. I didn't think it concerned me, but when I visited Wakamoto Pharmaceutical, who makes this product, they gave it to me. I thought, why not try it since it's lactic acid bacteria? When I took it, the difference was so dramatic that I noticed what had been my new normal. Since then, I realized I might be experiencing menopause symptoms I hadn't noticed. Initially they gave it to me, but now I buy it myself. I wasn't trying to treat menopause, but I did notice a change after taking it. One more thing: I don't have major sleep issues, but unlike before when I could fall asleep quickly no matter how busy, lately when I'm busy, it takes longer to fall asleep. In those cases, I drink something called Bicoacure, which contains GABA for sleep support. These sleep-supporting drinks have recently come out, and when I drink them after activities like YouTube Live, I sleep better. I think this is also a menopause symptom. I supplement with supplements and drinks, maintain good lifestyle habits, exercise properly, and regularly check cholesterol. This will continue for about 8-9 more years, so I want to share my changes in videos and care preventatively together with you. I also forgot to mention mood disorders like depression and irritability can occur. People around you, family, and coworkers may worry. If you experience these symptoms, you should visit a gynecologist, get hormone checks, and possibly take hormone replacement or prescribed medication. Through regular broadcasts, I want to share real-time updates with you and share my treatment experiences if they happen. So today I've talked about menopause and the body changes that occur. I want both young people and those in the midst of menopause, as well as partners, to know about these changes. Rather than being scared, understand how to respond properly. Treatment exists, and menopause always ends. Knowing this helps you not be unnecessarily frightened. If it's long or unclear, please watch again and properly face your own body changes. How did you feel about today's content? If you liked it, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel. See you in the next video. Goodbye!
