As the weather warms up, clogged pores and breakouts tend to become more noticeable, so today I'd like to introduce three recommended items for exactly these concerns. Please watch until the end! 【Item 1: IPSA Pore Clear Oil】 This is a cleansing oil. You might think, "Of course a cleansing oil helps with sebum, pores, and blackheads," but this one contains Shiseido's proprietary, cutting-edge blackhead-removal technology. First, what exactly are blackheads/keratin plugs? They're formed when old dead skin cells (protein) combine with sebum. While oil can dissolve sebum, the protein component tends to harden and is difficult to remove with oil alone. That's where Shiseido's unique "keratin-dissolving water" comes in—it works somewhat like an alkaline peel to break down the protein (the exact formula is a trade secret, but I suspect it's alkaline-based). Normally, adding water to an oil-based cleanser weakens its cleansing power. However, this product uses what I believe is a polyglyceryl-type surfactant (patented by Shiseido) that allows the water to be incorporated while maintaining strong cleansing performance. When applied to the skin, the oil blends with sebum while the finely dispersed keratin-dissolving water penetrates deep into pores to break down blackheads, which are then washed away. I've tried it myself, and I do feel my pores become cleaner—the blackheads around my nose seem noticeably improved. Despite being an oil cleanser, it doesn't leave skin feeling stripped or dry, likely thanks to the water-retaining polyglyceryl surfactant. It's great for oily skin types or anyone concerned about blackheads, and even dry skin types should be fine as long as they moisturize afterward. The one downside is the scent, which may not be for everyone. Aside from that, it's truly an excellent cleansing oil—definitely worth checking out if pores and blackheads are a concern for you. 【Item 2: Sulfur Brightening Lotion & Face Wash Powder】 The package prominently features the word "Sulfur." As a dermatologist, sulfur reminds me of "Sulfur Camphor Lotion," a classic acne treatment. Many of you have probably used it before—it's the type you shake before applying, and it often leaves a white, powdery residue that can be drying. This new Brightening Lotion finely processes sulfur so it can dissolve smoothly into the lotion. It also barely has that signature "hot spring" sulfur smell. Sulfur is known for absorbing excess sebum, softening keratin (dead skin), and its antibacterial properties—great news for those prone to recurring breakouts. It's non-comedogenic and also contains three types of human-identical ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and Lipidure, making it suitable even for those with dry skin who still struggle with breakouts. The Face Wash Powder combines sulfur, clay, and three enzymes (papain, protease, lipase), plus bentonite clay for absorption. It absorbs impurities while enzymatically breaking down blackheads, and the sulfur helps control sebum and bacteria. It even foams up with a slightly yellow tint, which I found interesting. Sulfur really is an "old but new" ingredient—dermatologists have trusted it for years, and it's exciting to see it reinvented with modern technology that eliminates the odor and improves texture, making it accessible for younger generations too. The packaging is also stylish and cute. There's also a Sulfur x Enzyme Clay Pack, where you mix two components together and apply with a spatula. I'd recommend using this once a week or so as a pore-care treatment. 【Item 3: Tune Makers Pure Clay Mask】 This is a grayish, muddy clay mask. You apply a generous amount to areas of concern (like around the nose), leave it on for a bit, then rinse off. What sets this apart is that it's not just clay—it also contains AHA (fruit acid), fermented AHA, and BHA (salicylic acid), which help soften keratin/dead skin without any stinging sensation. It's also formulated with Centella asiatica (Cica) extract, ceramides, and vitamin C derivative. While softening dead skin, the Cica and ceramides create a protective veil that helps deliver vitamin C effectively. I usually leave it on for about 5 minutes. Unlike typical clay masks that dry out completely (which can actually make it harder for active ingredients to penetrate), this one stays moist, allowing the beneficial ingredients to absorb better into the skin. The AHA/BHA acids soften dead skin, refining texture and making pores less noticeable.
