Hello everyone, I'm Dr. Yuri Nitta, a physician specializing in internal medicine and dermatology. Today, I'd like to introduce three cleansing oils that are safe to use even for those with sensitive or dry skin. I previously uploaded a video titled "Are You Choosing Your Cleanser Correctly?" — if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend checking it out. My general advice is to choose a cleanser based on how heavy your makeup is. There are many types of cleansers — oils, creams, milks, and more. It's commonly said that cleansing oils, while highly effective at removing makeup, also strip away essential sebum, and that people with dry or sensitive skin should avoid them. However, the truth is that any cleansing product will remove some amount of sebum, no matter how gentle it is. That's why moisturizing after cleansing is absolutely essential. Cleansing is the step in skincare that carries the most risk, so whether you're using a cleansing product or a face wash, always moisturize afterward. The three most important factors in cleansing are: ① removing makeup easily, ② doing so quickly, and ③ avoiding friction. For those with sensitive or dry skin, leaving a cleanser on the skin for too long can compromise the skin's barrier function, and rubbing a gentle but low-lather cleanser in circles can also cause friction damage. The ideal cleanser is one that instantly blends with makeup the moment it touches the skin and rinses it away cleanly without any rubbing. Cleansing oils excel at this — they have excellent skin compatibility and are outstanding makeup removers. For this reason, I actually believe that people with dry or sensitive skin should be using cleansing oils. That said, not all cleansing oils are created equal. It's important to choose one that minimizes stress on the skin. Since cleansing oils are primarily composed of cleansing agents and oil, the type of oil used is the key factor. With that in mind, I've selected three cleansing oils. Please watch until the end! [Product 1] Woman Method Triple A Treatment Cleansing Oil This is a private-brand product from the Japanese drugstore chain Matsumoto Kiyoshi. Its main ingredient is corn germ oil — a plant-based oil. Plant-derived oils like olive oil, corn germ oil, and argan oil share a similar composition to our skin's natural sebum, meaning they don't strip the skin of essential oils and are less likely to cause dryness. This particular cleansing oil contains 10 types of plant-based oils, including soybean oil, rice bran oil, and jojoba oil. Despite its rich, natural formulation, it's available for around 1,000 yen (approximately $7–8 USD), which is excellent value. It also contains lipidure, a highly effective moisturizing ingredient, as well as ceramide, helping to maintain skin hydration even after cleansing. This makes it a reassuring option for those with sensitive or dry skin. [Product 2] Cefine Beauty Pro Natural Cleansing Oil This cleansing oil is made entirely from plant-based oils, including olive oil and sunflower seed oil. A cleansing oil formulated exclusively with plant-derived oils is actually quite rare. Since plant-based oils share a similar composition to our natural sebum, they penetrate the skin gently and cause minimal stress. Even if left on the skin a little longer, they are unlikely to cause damage. If you've previously felt that cleansing oils left your skin dry, this product could change your experience. It is priced at around 3,800 yen (approximately $25 USD), which is on the higher end, but the peace of mind that comes with an all-natural plant-oil formula is well worth it. [Product 3] Attenir Skin Clear Cleansing Oil This cleansing oil's primary ingredient is an ester-type oil (cetyl ethylhexanoate). While ester oils are synthetic, they are highly stable, resistant to oxidation, safe, and blend well with makeup — making them excellent cleansing agents. If plant-based oils have previously caused irritation or breakouts for you, an ester-based formula may be the better choice. This product also contains plant-based oils such as argan oil, lemongrass oil, and lavender oil, enhancing its compatibility with the skin's natural sebum. A standout feature is its inclusion of polyglyceryl-10 isostearate, a water-soluble surfactant. Unlike most cleansing oils that require dry skin for optimal performance, this formula can be used on slightly damp skin — making it more convenient for everyday use. [Summary] Cleansing oils are not unsuitable for sensitive or dry skin. In fact, their ability to quickly dissolve makeup with minimal friction makes them a smart choice. When selecting one, pay attention to the type of oil used. Ideally, choose a product where plant-based oils are the primary ingredient, or at minimum, one where plant-based oils are included even if ester oils take the lead. And no matter which cleanser you use, always follow up with thorough moisturization. This channel provides easy-to-understand information on beauty and health.
