Nice to meet you. My acne keeps recurring and I never have a day when my skin is calm. I'm using calming cosmetics, but it just keeps breaking out and healing repeatedly. Since moisturizing is supposedly important, I'm currently using Dr. Phil's X Barrier—are there other options? First, let me say one thing: acne absolutely cannot be cured with skincare alone. Skincare that "cures" acne only works because it's combined with actual treatment. So if you're saying your acne keeps recurring with no calm days, please go see a dermatologist. Treatment at a dermatology clinic comes first. Sorry, I haven't seen Dr. Phil's X Barrier myself, but for people struggling with acne, always choose products labeled "formulated to prevent acne" or "non-comedogenic formula." As for moisturizing for acne, it depends on skin type, but basically you don't need heavy oil-based moisturizers. If your acne keeps recurring, that means you have excess sebum and clogged pores. For example, if you're concerned about the eye area, that area typically doesn't get acne, so you can use oil-based lotions there. But when you have a lot of active acne, avoid moisturizers containing oils—use water-based products like toners instead. That said, I'll say it again: skincare alone won't cure acne, so definitely go to a dermatologist, and use non-comedogenic skincare alongside dermatological treatment. And remember, moisturizing means water-based products, not oil-based ones. I always enjoy watching your videos. Thanks to your easy-to-understand videos, my interest in beauty and health has really grown. Regarding facial packs, could you recommend some good beauty packs, whether from department store brands or drugstore brands? I know you're busy, but I'll keep cheering you on. So, something I've really been into lately is THREE's Balancing Sheet Mask. What's great about it is the scent. It's packed with THREE's bestselling Balancing Lotion. I use it more for the healing feeling—sheet masks are the quickest way to get moisture into the stratum corneum, and they're also good for boosting other beauty effects. Since the scent is soothing, I consider this one for relaxation. If you want an instant brightening effect, there's Cosme Decorte's White Logist—specifically the White Logist Concentrate Brightening line, which has a sheet mask version. That's great for when you want instant brightness. Another one I've been using recently is a Shiseido firming eye mask—it's a sheet mask specifically for the eye area. Since masks these days only cover certain areas, this eye mask contains retinol (labeled MSK), so I use it often. Also, since I've naturally had acne-prone skin, I've noticed my pores in this area getting really open lately from wearing masks all the time. I tried a scrub but it stung, so instead I used Environ's Clay Mask, which worked quite well. Good evening, sensei. Please tell me about skincare or treatments for curing dullness. I do UV care, but when I'm indoors I just apply an all-in-one gel with UV protection, labeled SPF32 PA++++. Is that okay? I want skin like yours. Thank you so much. First, if your skin looks yellowish, that could be glycation. Skin dullness can indeed be related to glycation. To block glycation, POLA's B.A. line has been putting a lot of effort into this—the cleanser launching in July also targets AGEs (advanced glycation end-products) that build up in the skin, helping wash them away from the stratum corneum, while also delivering beauty benefits—which is unprecedented, since normally washing would rinse away the beneficial ingredients too. POLA has patented active ingredients that continue to penetrate the skin even after rinsing—this new category of cleansing pack is coming out, I believe in July. Also, the B.A. series was originally conceived with the concept of cutting dullness, so of course applying sunscreen properly is important, but if dullness is a concern, anti-glycation skincare that suppresses skin glycation—especially from B.A., which is advanced in this area—would be good to use. Good evening. I have sensitive skin to the point that even my hair touching my face makes it itchy, but since turning 25, my T-zone and nose area have become oily. So I'm thinking of changing my skincare just for that area—do you have any recommendations? I think that's a good idea. I always say, "draw a map of your face" and use different skincare for dry areas versus oily areas, so if your T-zone and nose have become oily, it's fine to treat just that area differently. One caution though: since you have dry skin overall, avoid using scrubs. Actually, one reason my skin got red was that I tried using a scrub again after a long time, wondering if scrubs were really that bad. I tried it on my face and this area stung. Using it on the whole face was bad—I found using it just around the nose was fine, but when I thought my whole face looked dull and tried it more broadly, it stung a bit. If you're just treating the nose, an enzyme cleanser with peeling effects would be good. Also, I posted this on Instagram—SUQQU has a pore-less cleansing product specifically for the T-zone that came out this season, and I think it's quite good. Since SUQQU's pore-less product specifies "for the nose area only," I think that's fine. Sensei, thank you always for your videos. I use sunscreen and cosmetics that are supposedly removable with soap. It depends on the product, but I do worry whether soap alone is really enough. Should I still use cleansing oil/milk as well? This is a commonly asked question. If you're worried, it's fine to use cleanser too, but basically, if the sunscreen or cosmetics are labeled as removable with soap, soap should be sufficient. Even if a bit of the sunscreen or makeup remains, it will definitely come off eventually through skin turnover. So if a reputable manufacturer states this, it should be fine. In fact, I once tried making sunscreen myself—I run a baby brand called Medi Skin, where I'm the founder and CEO, and we developed a soap-removable sunscreen (removable with our own soap products) with SPF50. When developing it, we had to test ourselves whether it truly comes off with soap. So if it's a legitimate manufacturer, they can't lie about this—another point is choosing a trustworthy manufacturer. Also, even if a small amount remains, it won't cause pigmentation issues. For people prone to acne, there's a slight chance it could contribute to breakouts, but that's more about mixing with sebum, so as long as you're properly removing sebum with soap, it should be totally fine. If you're worried, feel free to use cleanser as well, but you don't need to worry that much. I watched your sunscreen video, thank you. I've always had weak skin, and applying sunscreen makes my skin so dry it practically peels. Would sunscreen-containing primer or foundation alone be enough sun protection? Is there a good solution? This is another commonly asked question. People often ask if it's okay to skip sunscreen since their moisturizer or foundation already lists SPF30 or SPF50. But there's no real trick to it—I always explain that achieving the labeled SPF requires applying 2mg per square centimeter of the sun-protective product. So whether it's foundation or sunscreen, you'd need to apply that much of each layer specifically. It's practically impossible to apply moisturizer that thickly, and while you could apply foundation that thick, it would look overly caked-on and not create a nice makeup finish. So I think layering is better—applying sunscreen properly first is important. As for sunscreen causing dryness and peeling, it's about finding one that suits your skin and applying it properly. It's hard to say definitively which product is best, but I'd recommend trying sensitive-skin formulas or ones with moisturizing benefits. If that's truly impossible, you could apply moisturizer, then foundation, then powder, plus use a parasol or hat for physical shade—building up multiple layers of protection. Sensei Arata, can the muscles around the eyes be trained like body muscles? Would that help prevent sagging? Of course, since it's muscle, some strength training is possible, but repeatedly making certain expressions doesn't isolate and train just that muscle—if anything, squinting repeatedly can create wrinkles in that area. So I don't think it's very meaningful. Instead, it's better to avoid overusing your eyes and improve blood circulation. Sagging under the eyes isn't just about muscle looseness—it's also related to the skin's firmness and lack of elasticity under the eyes. No matter how much you train, muscles will decline to some degree with age, and the same goes for skin, so specifically training just the eye muscles is difficult. It's better to address it through skin firmness—make sure to apply eye cream properly. Also, incorporating ingredients like retinol, or hyaluronic acid and collagen boosters that add firmness and thickness, into the eye area would be a good approach.
