Hello everyone, I'm Arata Tomori, an internal medicine and dermatologist. Today I'd like to talk about the topic of "relationship medicine for longevity." When I say "longevity," I mean living a long and healthy life. On this channel, I often discuss things like diet and lifestyle habits that promote health. However, romantic relationships and partnerships are actually one of the major factors that influence your healthy life expectancy. Several studies have shown how the type of relationship you build with your partner can affect your health, so I'd like to introduce some of those findings today. ■Tip #1: Couples who kiss before leaving for work have higher incomes and better health A study conducted at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada found that people who have a habit of kissing their partner before leaving for work tend to live longer, have a lower risk of traffic accidents, and earn up to 25% more in annual income. The research also found that a kiss lasting 20 seconds or more is more effective than a quick peck. It may be a habit that fades over the years, but for the sake of your partner's health, try making a "goodbye kiss" part of your daily routine. ■Tip #2: Cheating on your partner increases the risk of sudden death Researchers at the University of Florence in Italy investigated the relationship between infidelity and cardiovascular disease. They found that men who cheated more frequently were more prone to cardiovascular problems. The primary cause is believed to be stress. The guilt and constant fear of being discovered keeps the sympathetic nervous system in a heightened state, leading to the release of stress hormones. These hormones cause blood vessels to constrict, raising the risk of heart disease. Beyond the obvious ethical issues, cheating is simply bad for your health. ■Tip #3: People who are frequently praised tend to have longer healthy lifespans A 2010 joint study conducted in Japan and the United States looked at 179 patients recovering from conditions such as stroke. Patients who were praised during rehabilitation—with comments like "That's amazing!" or "Look how much better you're walking!"—showed significantly better recovery than those who received no such encouragement. Specifically, the praised group sustained physical activity for approximately 1.8 times longer than the group that received no praise. Being praised boosts motivation, which in turn encourages healthier behaviors such as improving daily habits and increasing physical activity. On the flip side, having a domineering or controlling partner has the opposite effect. Research shows that people with overly intimidating partners have a 20% higher risk of accidents and illness compared to those without. This is again due to stress, which can disrupt hormonal balance and increase the risk of cardiovascular problems. Make it a habit to offer positive words to your partner—phrases like "That's great!" or "You look wonderful!"—as this can help extend both of your healthy lifespans. Today, I shared some fascinating research on the connection between healthy longevity and romantic relationships. Beyond romance, all kinds of human relationships—at work, in hobby groups, and elsewhere—have a significant impact on our health. I hope to continue sharing useful insights from this perspective. This channel covers beauty and health topics in an engaging and accessible way. If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe, leave a comment, and give it a thumbs up. See you in the next video.
