Today I want to take a deep dive into it. The product I'm introducing is Sofina iP Brightening Serum. The package itself states, "Block spots before they form, before they increase—get ahead of them." Of course, it also contains ingredients that help improve spots that have already formed, but the standout feature is that it proactively blocks spot formation before it even starts. Before diving deeper into this serum, let me briefly explain how spots form. When skin is exposed to UV rays, keratinocytes (skin cells) and epidermal cells produce a substance called "endothelin," which transmits inflammatory signals. This endothelin sends a signal from the epidermal cells to melanocytes, instructing them to produce melanin. This activates an enzyme called "tyrosinase" within the melanocytes, which converts a substance called "tyrosine" into melanin pigment. Melanin starts out light in color, but gradually darkens and clusters together—like tiny roe (fish eggs)—forming a larger mass called a "melanosome." This mass is then transferred to the epidermal cells and accumulates there, which is essentially what becomes a visible dark spot. So the very first key point is that endothelin is released from the epidermal cells and signals the melanocytes. If we can block this initial step, the entire chain reaction—tyrosinase activation, melanin production, melanosome accumulation, and transfer to the epidermis—never occurs.
