It's labeled as "anti-aging care for sensitive skin," and it does a great job boosting skin radiance—plus it contains hyaluronic acid, of course. But here's the real surprise: La Roche-Posay is part of the L'Oréal Group, and this product contains an ingredient called "Proxylane," which can only be used by L'Oréal Group brands. Proxylane is known to promote hyaluronic acid production in the epidermis, support the production of ceramides that help bind the basement membrane together, and increase glycosaminoglycans in the dermis, which help maintain skin's cushioning. It also boosts FGF, a growth factor that activates fibroblasts. This ingredient is generously used in luxury products from L'Oréal Group brands like Helena Rubinstein and Lancôme, and even in Kiehl's products priced around $100+. Yet this Hyalu B5 costs only around $30-40. Finding Proxylane in a product at this price point was genuinely surprising to me. For sensitive skin, it's important to build thickness across all layers of skin—and this serum is packed with panthenol and hyaluronic acid to support that. I think this is not just for sensitive skin, but a great option for anyone wanting anti-aging care, making it a true hidden gem from La Roche-Posay. It's also allergy-tested, which is a nice bonus. 【4】Quality First Derma Laser Specter LSUC Serum When I first saw this, I actually said "wow" out loud. The Derma Laser series is known for its solid vitamin C formulations, but this one claims to contain "high-concentration raw vitamin C"—likely referring to pure vitamin C. The challenge with pure vitamin C is that at high concentrations, it tends to crystallize. The most famous technology for preventing this crystallization belongs to Rohto Pharmaceutical, which holds a patent for achieving 25% concentration. While this product obviously can't use the exact same patented technology, it seems to use a similar approach. I asked about the details, but they wouldn't tell me—though I suspect it contains a fairly solid concentration. It also contains APPS and other penetrating forms of vitamin C, and notably, it has less irritation than many vitamin C serums. If you've been wanting to try a vitamin C serum, this one is definitely worth checking out. 【5】Astalift The Serum I remember getting quite excited when this first launched. This serum is based on research that uncovered how melanocytes—the cells that produce melanin—actually form, tracing it back to "melanocyte stem cells." It contains an ingredient that suppresses these stem cells at the source. Fujifilm, being originally a pharmaceutical company, took this further by using liposome technology to deliver the ingredient effectively. But unlike the "multilamellar liposomes" we typically associate with cosmetics, this uses "unilamellar liposomes"—a technology used in pharmaceuticals when you want to deliver an ingredient directly to a specific location. By applying this technology, the serum delivers melanocyte-stem-cell-suppressing ingredients precisely to where these cells are likely to be. This sounds like something you'd expect from a department store brand, but the fact that it's available at drugstores is remarkable. Rather than treating existing spots, this serum helps prevent future spots from forming. By incorporating it into your routine now, before intense UV exposure begins, you can reduce the number of active melanocytes, which should help prevent the formation of new spots caused by sun exposure.
