【皮膚科医が解説】テカリとニキビ対策

Today I'd like to introduce three serums and lotions that can be expected to be effective for one of the more serious concerns among you — excessive sebum production, in other words, shininess and the acne that comes with it. Basically, sebum production is related to sex hormones. During puberty, sex hormones become active and stimulate the sebaceous glands, causing excessive sebum, so this is usually most common in teens and 20s. However, according to a survey by a certain cosmetics company about concerns by age group, actually from the 20s to late 30s, the top concern turned out to be things like enlarged pores and shininess around the pores. I was surprised that this was even the 2nd biggest concern in the early 40s and the 3rd in the late 40s — many people are troubled by enlarged pores and excess sebum. When sebum production becomes excessive, the T-zone especially becomes shiny. Many people seem to feel that this shininess makes them look somewhat unclean, so many people want to control this shininess. Here is a product containing an ingredient that is said to be uniquely effective in Japan for this kind of shininess — I can say "effective" for this one. It's the ONE BY KOSÉ Balancing Toner. This is a medicated lotion that suppresses sebum production. Just from the name, isn't that amazing? Because it clearly states that it's a lotion that suppresses sebum secretion. The key ingredient in this sebum-suppressing lotion is Rice Power No.6. How does the Rice Power No.6 in this lotion work? Normally, lotions that claim to suppress or remove sebum work by removing the sebum that has already come out, or wiping away the shine. Among lotions that claim to suppress sebum, many have too strong a degreasing effect — good for shiny areas but causing dryness elsewhere, which is a concern for many people. Since it won't dry out your skin even when applied to your entire face, if you're someone whose forehead and nose get shiny from wearing masks these days, this might be worth trying. Next, when it comes to shininess and enlarged pores, Vitamin C is essential. Here's a notable serum containing Vitamin C — the SPA TREATMENT Real C Serum. As I've mentioned many times on this channel, Vitamin C has strong antioxidant properties, and it also helps with enlarged pores. When sebum is secreted from open pores, slight inflammation occurs around the pores, causing them to enlarge further — Vitamin C helps suppress this. As mentioned earlier, there is a female hormone called progesterone that excessively activates sebum production. Also, human skin has something called antimicrobial peptides, which work to suppress bacteria that cause skin problems, such as acne-causing bacteria. However, ORBIS researchers discovered that these antimicrobial peptides actually decrease before menstruation, when progesterone rises. Since progesterone increases sebum production, and antimicrobial peptides decrease at the same time, acne-causing bacteria — which feed on sebum — proliferate, worsening pre-menstrual acne. While it's difficult to suppress the increase in sebum caused by progesterone itself, the ingredient that prevents the drop in antimicrobial peptides is called Shikon Extract (Lithospermum Root Extract). ORBIS has data showing that when Shikon Extract is included, the skin's antimicrobial peptides do not decrease.
