Dr. Arata Tomori, it's been incredibly hot lately, hasn't it? I think there are so many whitening serums out there right now, and I feel like viewers probably don't know which one to choose. Whitening tends to have a summer image, but for me, if you want to bring out translucency or prevent spots, I want people to use it year-round. There are so many categories within whitening serums, but broadly speaking, I think there are four main types. First, there's suppressing the signal that says "make a spot" when UV rays hit the skin. Then, once that signal reaches the "factory" called melanocytes that make spots, they start producing melanin—spots start being manufactured. Suppressing that production itself is another type. Another one is that once something is produced, it gets shipped out from the factory. There's a type that suppresses that shipment to the epidermis. And if things pile up after being handed off, it causes a traffic jam, which becomes a spot—so speeding up the dispatch, essentially improving metabolism, is another type. So first, not letting the switch be pressed; not letting the factory operate; not letting the factory ship out; and not letting shipments stagnate—these are the four patterns. That was incredibly clear, historically the clearest explanation. During this season, it's most efficient to use products that stop the "make it" signal—essentially suppressing inflammation, stopping that signal. So today I lined some up. When it comes to ingredients that suppress the signal, the representative one is tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid suppresses melanin production by suppressing inflammation—essentially, it suppresses the signal. Another one is Kamomira ET. This is only found in Kao's products. Kamomira ET itself suppresses the production of prostaglandins that occur during inflammation, which in turn suppresses the "need to make melanin" signal. Another one, recently approved as a whitening active ingredient, is Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate. These three ingredients are the ones that prevent the "make the signal" order from being given. Each has its own merits, so I lined them up a bit. The product containing Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate as a whitening active ingredient is this one—Kose's Brightening Essence Lotion. This contains Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, which both suppresses inflammation and whitens—doing double duty. Since UV exposure causes inflammation in the skin, and that inflammation can potentially trigger spots, I think it's great that this suppresses both. This Astalift The Serum also contains Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate as an active ingredient for preventing skin roughness. Actually, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate was originally approved for its efficacy in preventing skin roughness. But the approval to use it as a whitening active ingredient was only granted to Kose. So only Kose can claim Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate as a whitening ingredient, but it can be described as anti-inflammatory. So does that mean it doesn't work in other products? No, it does work—they just can't state it. So this also contains Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, plus this contains tranexamic acid as well. Plus, Astalift originally has liposome technology. Do you know what liposomes are? Penetration. Right, they help things penetrate. There are multi-layered liposomes like an onion, and single-layered ones like a big soap bubble. For fitting in a lot of ingredients, the single-layer type has a bigger "circle"—like a bigger capsule to put things in—so for water-soluble ingredients, single-layer liposomes are better. Astalift puts its own secret-sauce-like formula into these single-layer liposomes and delivers it exactly where needed. In terms of suppressing inflammation while delivering that "secret sauce," I think it's really good. Now, this Curél—what do you think is in it? Curél means Kao. Kao means Kamomira ET. Kamomira ET is in it. Kamomira ET also suppresses inflammation and prevents the signal from being activated, so during this UV-heavy season, I really think Kamomira ET is great—and it's only found in Kao products. For sensitive skin that still wants whitening—sensitive skin tends to get inflamed easily—so suppressing inflammation is important, and Kamomira ET is good for that. So if you have dry, sensitive skin, I'd recommend Kao's Curél. Speaking of tranexamic acid, what brand comes to mind? Transino. That's right. So Transino contains tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid is actually a water-soluble ingredient, so it's hard for it to reach the skin. Transino uses its own proprietary penetration technology to deliver it properly. It can prevent skin roughness and also stop the factory from receiving the signal, so this Transino Medicated Whitening Essence—since it suppresses the signal, I think that's why it's called the Melano Signal Essence. During this season when UV levels rise, tranexamic acid is definitely an ingredient you want included. Speaking of tranexamic acid, what else comes to mind? Um, another one is... oh, HAKU, right? Ding ding ding! That's right. Speaking of tranexamic acid, Shiseido is also doing a lot with it—this HAKU contains not just tranexamic acid but also 4MSK, Shiseido's own medicated active ingredient. 4MSK suppresses the factory while also speeding up shipment, so it's surprisingly multi-functional. This time, HAKU uses tranexamic acid to suppress inflammation and stop the signal, while 4MSK suppresses the factory itself and also slightly speeds up shipment. HAKU has been renewed, and we made an in-depth video about it too, so please check that out. This time, the "secret sauce" also includes ingredients that address why spots come back even after laser removal—it's because the skin retains a "memory" of how to easily make spots. There are ingredients that erase that memory too. So it suppresses the signal, suppresses the factory, suppresses the handoff, and suppresses the discharge—HAKU basically does everything. I see. So that's part of why people say "it has to be HAKU." I see, that makes sense. Now, one more—speaking of tranexamic acid, which one is it? One more, this one's unexpected. How about... Chanel? Correct! I didn't know that one, you wouldn't know it. This is something a lot of people surprisingly don't know, but among foreign brands, Chanel is the only one with its own approved whitening active ingredient. Oh, really? They have their own proprietary active ingredient. It's called TXC, a derivative of tranexamic acid. Oh! That's included in this Le Blanc series. Tranexamic acid—what did I say it was earlier? Water-soluble? Right, it dissolves easily in water. Because it's water-soluble, and skin has an oil barrier due to sebum, it's hard for it to penetrate. Chanel turned tranexamic acid into a derivative to make it easier to penetrate the skin—that's Chanel's TXC. Because it penetrates well, it suppresses inflammation while also suppressing the "make melanin" signal. Not many people know this, but Chanel's Le Blanc is truly an excellent product. I really want people to use this quality product during this season. Lastly, there's this Fasio—what's in it? Of course, it contains niacinamide, which suppresses the signal, plus dipotassium glycyrrhizinate, which provides anti-inflammatory effects. It also contains vitamin C and arbutin, along with niacinamide. That means it suppresses the switch-pressing signal, suppresses the factory, suppresses shipment from the factory—it contains ingredients that cover everything except discharge. So I thought it was quite excellent and decided to include it too. To sum up, Noborikun: during summer, mainly use products that suppress inflammation—essentially, stop the signal—while also addressing stopping the factory, suppressing shipment from the factory, and speeding up dispatch to prevent stagnation. If there are four types, it's best to suppress the root cause first. So with that in mind, if a product contains Kamomira ET, tranexamic acid, and Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, these three can suppress the very first signal, so I'd recommend using those. I see. And combining that with other things, having various ingredients included would be even better, right? Covering all four is difficult, but three is doable. I see, so using two products together and combining them that way works too. That's totally fine. Then next time, let's try combining them. If we could find one product that covers all four, I'd love to introduce it. That would be great too. We finally found it—the ultimate combination. Let's do that next time. But for this time, since Dr. Arata Tomori says these are the best to use right now, in summer, it's best to suppress inflammation—essentially stop the very first "make it" signal. So what I introduced today contains that: tranexamic acid, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, and Kamomira ET—these three suppress the very first starting point. So during this season of strong UV rays, I recommend checking for products containing these three ingredients. Thank you as always for the material. Let's keep sharing information going forward. Alright, thank you so much for watching today. See you in the next video. Goodbye.
