Let's start with the questions.
【How long should I keep taking Cinal?】
How long can I continue taking Cinal?
Cinal is basically vitamin C. People often say "I've been taking Cinal all the time," and while it's good to take vitamin C regularly since your body can't store much at once, taking too much isn't good either. Excessive vitamin C intake can lead to things like urinary tract stones. So if you feel you're lacking vitamin C, it's fine to take it—but since it's a medication, you should properly consider whether it's actually benefiting you. I don't recommend taking it blindly. Nothing bad will necessarily happen, but you should be clear about why you're taking it.
【How to choose UV products beyond SPF/PA】
With so many UV products coming out, what features besides SPF and PA should I look for when choosing one?
What a wonderful question! First, SPF50 and PA+++ to ++++ have basically become standard now. Beyond that, the evolution of UV products has been about adding beauty ingredients. For example, Orbis released a product around 2020 containing niacinamide, which helps with whitening and improving skin tone unevenness. Following that trend, we saw things like vitamin C added, or ingredients to calm inflammation, or hyaluronic acid—the addition of beauty ingredients became a key feature.
From around 2020 to 2021, the focus shifted to "comfort of use"—like sunscreens that create that plump, water-film texture I mentioned earlier. This season, on top of that comfort and beauty ingredients, anti-inflammatory ingredients and ease of application have been added, so it's really about which one suits your particular scene or moment.
Also, it depends on what skincare effect you're looking for—do you want moisture, or do you want to calm inflammation? Plus, products can now be chosen based on your skin type, like whether you're concerned about pores or not, so you can choose sunscreen almost the same way you'd choose skincare. Additionally, this year many products have been upgraded to be more portable/travel-friendly.
There are also sunscreens that double as makeup base. For example, Suqqu's foundations are amazing, right? So Suqqu finally released a sunscreen designed to pair perfectly with their foundation. This might seem simple, but compatibility with foundation is actually really important. If you apply a base, then sunscreen, then foundation, your skin gets heavy. So having a sunscreen that also works as a base, while still preserving the quality of your own brand's foundation—that's what Suqqu has achieved. Saint Laurent and Cle de Peau are also doing this kind of thing, precisely because they're makeup brands.
Many colors have come out too—green, natural beige, vanilla beige, peach beige, orange-ish tones, etc. Now you can choose different UV products based on what look you want. Just like how you used to choose foundation based on whether you wanted a dewy or matte finish, now you can do the same with UV products.
【What about baby oil cleansing?】
What do you think about baby oil cleansing? People who recommend it often say it's especially good for those with sensitive skin.
I don't think it's necessarily bad, but there are people who can use baby oil cleansing and people who can't. For example, with today's makeup, I personally couldn't use baby oil cleansing because I'm wearing quite full makeup. I'd want something with surfactants to properly remove it. But if it's really light makeup, I think it would be fine.
That said—I haven't looked into this in extreme detail—but doesn't it say on baby oil cleansers that you should properly wash your face afterward, like with foam cleanser? Ultimately, baby oil is oil, so it can lift makeup, but it doesn't mix with water since it doesn't contain surfactants. So even if you wipe it off with tissue, some residue remains, which is why you need to follow up with foam cleansing.
So the conditions would be: your makeup isn't too heavy; if it is heavy, use a proper makeup remover; you're not using waterproof sunscreen or hard-to-remove foundation; and you always finish with a foam cleanser. I think that's essential.
【About water temperature when washing your face】
I heard long ago that when washing your face, it's good to use water slightly cooler than what you'd feel comfortable with, and I've been practicing this. I heard that washing with water around 40°C strips away too much oil. There are now mascaras that come off with hot water—does that mean most people wash their faces with hot water? Could you share your thoughts and habits regarding water temperature for face washing?
I actually asked a manufacturer about this. When I asked "what temperature of water do you assume for products that 'come off with hot water'?", they said it doesn't need to be 40°C—lukewarm water is fine.
Personally, I use lukewarm water, water that feels just slightly cool—not any specific exact temperature, but around that level. As you said, the higher the water temperature, the more it strips oil from your skin, which can lead to dryness. For people like me with oily skin, or in summer, it's less of an issue. But for people with dry skin, I really don't recommend hot water—slightly cool water is better.
【About freckles on the upper lip border】
Good evening. I have freckles along the border of my upper lip that I'd like to remove, but I've heard it's difficult. Can lasers be used there? Is there any good treatment option?
Lasers can be used, but it depends on the color, and I'm not sure if it can be removed in just one session. I'd recommend asking directly when you make your appointment: "Do you perform laser treatment on the lips?"
【About skin peeling around the eyes】
Good evening. Recently, when I apply sunscreen and then remove it during cleansing, the skin around my outer eye corners and under my eyes peels. Am I applying too much sunscreen? I thought it might be dryness, but even when I apply cream thoroughly, no other area peels except around my eyes. Also, when applying eyeshadow with a brush, the skin on my eyelids peels too.
I wonder if this is really skin peeling, or if it's just sunscreen or base makeup flaking off. Do you have any itching or redness? If skin is peeling even when you're just applying eyeshadow, that makes me think it might not be about the sunscreen at all, but some kind of skin issue. If there's itching, you should see a dermatologist. But if switching sunscreens resolves the symptoms, then it might be that certain sunscreen ingredients are causing this flaking/pilling.
【About yellow discoloration along the jawline】
I'm a woman in my early 30s. My overall skin tone is yellowish, but recently the lower part of my face—the area where a man's beard would grow—has become noticeably more yellow than the rest of my face, almost like a man's five o'clock shadow, but yellow. Could this be related to my TMJ disorder from clenching, or the jaw Botox injections I get to prevent clenching?
First, I don't think TMJ disorder and Botox are related to this. As for why only this area looks yellow—people naturally have a lot of tonal unevenness in their skin, and for me personally, this area tends to look more brownish. Uneven tone tends to show up along the jawline quite often, so I think that's likely what you're noticing.
Botox and TMJ disorder aren't related to this. However, if you're getting a lot of acne specifically in that beard area, that could be a sign of hormonal imbalance. So if, along with the yellow tone, you're also experiencing frequent acne or even actual hair growth in that area, I'd recommend consulting a gynecologist. But if it's just the yellow discoloration, I don't think it's something to worry about too much.
