Good evening, doctor. As you approach 500,000 subscribers, I'm as excited as if it were my own achievement. By the way, since it's said that foundation isn't good for the skin, I usually finish with sunscreen + primer + powder. But recently I've noticed more opinions saying that applying foundation actually acts as a good barrier for the skin. What do you think about this?
In the past, there was an image that it's better to go bare-faced, but nowadays it's considered important to apply a protective layer to the skin—whether that's sunscreen, primer, or foundation—thoroughly. Recently, there's also a concept called "anti-pollution." As air pollution progresses, we're learning that things like pollen and PM2.5 sticking to the skin can cause chronic inflammation. So I think it's fine as long as you apply either sunscreen, primer, or foundation. It's not that you must wear foundation—the important thing is to have some kind of protective layer on your skin.
I have a mild atopic constitution and oily skin, with a few pimples. My face often gets irritated, but since I started using Corectim, my skin condition has improved. However, is it really true that Corectim has no side effects even with long-term use? I do have trauma from low-level steroid use causing lots of comedones.
Corectim is a newly approved medication, and I think it's a good drug for people who haven't gotten much effect from steroids or who experience side effects from them. Regarding how you started using Corectim, your treating physician likely understands the details well, so I'd recommend consulting with them thoroughly about this.
Good evening, doctor. Exciting to be approaching 500,000! I'll be turning 30 next year—do you have any recommended aesthetic medical treatments? I have trauma from a massage peel where my skin was rubbed, and I haven't been able to go to a dermatology clinic since. Does massage peel really involve that much rubbing? I'd like to visit your clinic again.
Does it really rub that much, massage peel? There is definitely some circular rubbing motion. But I don't think that level is a big deal—at least based on the image of the treatments we do. I did light therapy treatments until I was 30 because my face was really puffy. Thermage wasn't very mainstream back then, and only a few clinics offered it at the time—I had my Thermage debut at age 30. I think it depends on your own skin and facial concerns, so rather than just because you're turning 30, I think it's better to choose something that goes one step beyond whatever concern you currently have.
Good evening, doctor. I don't know whether I have inner-dry skin or oily skin—is there a way to tell the difference? My skin gets shiny in the morning and evening, but after getting out of the bath, it feels a bit tight.
First, try moisturizing. If moisturizing makes your skin feel hydrated, then you have oily skin and don't need extra moisture. But if you still feel dry even after adding water-based hydration, that suggests inner-dry skin, and you need to add a bit more oil. So please try this out and see.
Doctor, I'm troubled by my pathologically pale skin. Friends and relatives call me things like "snow woman"—I want to look like Amuro-chan (tanned). Should I go to a tanning salon? Even my legs are the color of vanilla ice cream. Please give me your opinion.
I think that's actually a great thing, so you don't need any medication. Also, if you went to a tanning salon, you're probably the type whose skin turns red rather than tan. For people like that, excessive UV exposure actually increases risks like skin cancer, so I wouldn't recommend it.
Good evening, doctor. I'm a 45-year-old man. Since university, I've been interested in beauty and cleanliness, and wanting to reduce my pores, I've continued laser treatments at a cosmetic surgery clinic. I also had laser hair removal on my beard, so I no longer need to shave. Also, I used to grind my teeth a lot, which caused significant jaw widening, but this improved with Botox. One thing I'm curious about: it seems you can't donate blood for about 3 months after a Botox injection—is this actually scientifically proven?
According to the manufacturer, they say to wait until you've had two menstrual cycles, which is about 2 to 3 months. But some people plan around this and some don't, right? In case something happens, the manufacturer can't guarantee safety, so in that sense, they ask you to wait 3 months.
Vitamin C irritates my skin—are there other recommended ingredients? I'm 22 years old with inner-dry, pigmentation-prone skin.
Even among vitamin C products, for example, pure vitamin C might irritate your skin, but other forms of vitamin C might be fine. Also, vitamin C isn't always combined with other moisturizing ingredients. One thing I'd suggest trying is a serum from Dr. Ci:Labo that contains APPS (a vitamin C derivative) along with ceramide. If that still doesn't work, I think it's probably best to give up on vitamin C.
As for alternatives to vitamin C, I have a video that goes in-depth about whitening ingredients, discussing various whitening ingredients other than vitamin C. For example, inner-dry skin isn't really related to pigmentation, but if you have inner-dry skin, it's better to incorporate ceramide-type ingredients. If you're targeting pigmentation, there are ingredients like kojic acid... [note: possibly meant differently], chamomile ET, and arbutin, so I think it's good to approach it from that direction.
I'm a 23-year-old male. My concern is shine and acne. I've tried various things like Orbis and Mr. Curél Sebum Trouble Care Gel, but haven't been satisfied and am currently lost. I was thinking of trying Melano CC, but Orbis also contains vitamin C, which I haven't tried yet. So far Orbis has been the best, but should I work on things beyond skincare?
Today, for example, a boy around 20 years old came to the clinic for acne treatment, and he was also doing proper skincare. However, men in their 20s are at the peak of sebum production in their entire life. Since that's partly physiological, I prescribed medication to suppress sebum for him. So things that can be managed with skincare and things that need treatment are separate. If it's just shine, skincare can handle it, but if you want to treat acne, you should go to a clinic. Going to a clinic is the best option.
I'd like to ask about scalp odor countermeasures. It's about my husband's scalp, which has quite a strong oily smell. I've tried various countermeasures, but nothing seems to work. The shampoos I've tried so far include soap-based shampoo, scalp-care shampoo, oily-skin type, dry-skin type, middle-age odor type, enzyme-based, and more—quite a wide variety. I've also tried many different shampooing methods. I keep the pillowcase clean too. I'm completely at a loss. Dr. Yuri, please help.
If that's the case, I think it's important to pay attention not just to shampoo but also to diet. Body odor actually comes from food more than people realize. Of course, check whether he's smoking. If the scalp is producing oil, that means oil control isn't working well, so please look carefully at whether he's eating too much fried food or animal protein like meat. Also, sugar—eating too many sweets also increases sebum production. So in that sense, first review the diet, and see if body odor gradually changes from there.
Also, if the gut environment isn't in good balance, the sebum balance will also become disrupted, so please eat a diet rich in dietary fiber. I plan to make a more detailed video about this, but to improve gut health, you need both probiotics (like natto, which introduces good bacteria) and prebiotics (which feed the gut bacteria)—you need to incorporate both. So please pay attention to gut health as well. From there, continue using whichever shampoo has felt best among those you've already tried, while also paying attention to diet—I think that would be the best approach.
Good evening, doctor. I'm using Medi Skin Baby, thank you. Is it over-moisturizing to use both lotion and balm in summer? I was shocked to find more acne breaking out on my forehead. For the past few days, I've only done cleansing, emulsion, and lotion—is this approach correct?
I wonder if this is about the person themselves using it? If it's for a baby, it's totally fine to use balm together with lotion. But for an adult, I think lotion alone should be enough. Cleanse, apply emulsion, then lotion, and only use balm on areas that get dry, like around the eyes, for example.
