Hello everyone. I'm Arata Tomori. Recently, I feel like private brand and exclusive products at pharmacies have become quite common. Places like Cocokara Fine and Matsukiyo—Matsukiyo and Cocokara Fine are actually the same company, right? There are a lot of products from them, and when you look closely, you find things that are only sold there, or private brand items exclusive to those stores, and among them there were quite a few that I thought were really impressive. So today I'd like to introduce private brand and exclusive products from Matsukiyo Cocokara Fine that I personally think are great. Please watch until the end if you'd like. First, let me share my personal view on why these private brands have been increasing lately. I think it's because the demand for cosmetics at drugstores has grown. During the pandemic, department stores were often closed, among other things, right? But drugstores and pharmacies remained open, so more people started buying things other than medicine there. Also, in terms of Japan's cosmetics industry structure, even a single company like Shiseido has both department store cosmetics (depacos) and drugstore cosmetics (dorakosu), and budget-friendly items and drugstore cosmetics ultimately get sold at drugstores anyway. Given that, demand increased in that direction. Also, since many pharmacy chains operate nationwide, if a cosmetics company partners with them, they can secure shelf space without having to fight for it competitively. This probably also allows them to cut out the middleman wholesalers. Even though it's called a private brand, if you look closely, an actual cosmetics company is involved—that cosmetics company partners with, say, Matsukiyo or Cocokara Fine, and together they create the product. This likely eliminates unnecessary costs in between, which means better expected sales, plus it draws in customers specifically looking for these products—so it's probably a win-win situation. I think these kinds of private brands will continue to be created more and more from now on, and as a consumer, being able to buy genuinely excellent products at a certain reasonable price is something I find very appealing. I personally think this is a uniquely Japanese approach. First, let's start with this one: With Method Triple Vita-C Bright Pure Achy VC Serum. I've also uploaded a detailed video about this, so please check it out if you're interested. This product itself is incredibly simple, containing just pure vitamin C and moisturizing ingredients. For people who find things like Melano CC a bit too sharp/tangy, or who want more moisture and a richer feel, this could be a great option. Pure vitamin C is very unstable and difficult to handle, but this product is designed so it dispenses drop by drop, and pressing it prevents air from entering—which is great, since pure vitamin C oxidizes and degrades when exposed to air. This is priced at 1,980 yen including tax. Since With Method Triple itself is Matsukiyo's private brand, and the line also includes things like cleansers and toners with genuinely good ingredients, I think With Method Triple is a private brand worth checking out. Recently, hair care private brand/original products have also been impressive, and one of them is this: Molecular Repair Hair Serum. It contains a proprietary peptide called Molecular Repair that works to change the structure of hair at the molecular level. Until now, hair care mostly focused on coating the cuticle, but because peptides are small, they can penetrate deep inside and change the quality of the hair itself—that's roughly the concept. I use this myself, and I've introduced it in my night routine videos and mentioned it quite often during livestreams—it really does dramatically change hair texture. I honestly didn't expect it to be THAT effective. In skincare, peptides are also a hot topic right now, with research into peptides that improve various skin functions, but I never expected peptides to work on hair too—yet my hair really does become noticeably smoother. This made me think it might be too good a product to just be sitting on drugstore shelves. If you're looking for a hair milk beyond your regular leave-in shampoo or conditioner, I'd definitely recommend trying this. And speaking of that, there's also an impressive shampoo that came out. It's called Conclete Damage Maintenance. Until now, hair care focused on the cuticle, but hair is made of protein, right? And when you break protein down further, you get amino acids. They discovered that the specific amino acids damaged differ depending on whether the damage comes from coloring or from heat, and the idea is to properly restore those amino acids through shampoo and conditioner. Until now it was mostly about the cuticle, but shifting the focus down to the amino acid level is really fascinating. This comes in both a Damage Maintenance and a Moisture Maintenance version, with different amino acids formulated in each. The Damage Maintenance version is for people whose hair is damaged by perms, coloring, or other chemical treatments—their hair tends to lack amino acids like arginine, tryptophan, lysine, and asparagine, so those are added back in. On the other hand, Moisture Damage refers more to dryness and heat damage—like from using a flat iron—and dry hair tends to lack amino acids like glutamic acid, glycine, aspartic acid, and serine, so those get replenished. It's like a nutrient-injection concept. I also found it fascinating how they carefully considered how hair changes depending on the type of damage. Major brands keep coming out with great products, but I want people to know that drugstore-exclusive products can be really excellent too. Next is this one: The Retinotime White Premier Whitening Mask. I've introduced Retinotime before in other contexts. This Retinotime line is originally made by Naris Cosmetics. What's impressive is that the ingredients here are genuinely excellent—it contains vitamin C derivatives, niacinamide, and also a retinol derivative. Of course, a retinol derivative is different from pure retinol, so you can't claim the same wrinkle-improving effects as retinol, but with long-term use, it can be expected to add radiance and firmness. Also, unlike pure retinol, it's much less likely to cause retinol reactions (irritation), which is probably why it can be included in a sheet mask. Both the vitamin C derivative and niacinamide are approved active ingredients for whitening/brightening, so I think this is quite good. It also uses Naris's proprietary Direct Technology to ensure the ingredients properly penetrate the skin. While there are plenty of large-volume products containing similar vitamin C derivatives, niacinamide, or retinol derivatives, this kind of penetration technology is something only major manufacturers can really achieve well, so I think this sheet mask goes a step further. On that note, this Retinotime line also has a sunscreen. It's labeled as a medicated whitening UV emulsion, and I wondered—an emulsion?—but it's actually a milk-type sunscreen. Like the sheet mask, it contains vitamin C derivative, niacinamide, and retinol derivative. Some people might think that since it contains retinol, it shouldn't be used in the morning, but that's not quite right. While pure retinol might raise some concern, having a retinol derivative on the skin is said to help protect against UV damage. It's not a sunscreen ingredient per se, but it helps suppress damage from sun exposure—some dermatologists even recommend applying it properly in the morning for that reason. I thought this was wonderful—it's the kind of sunscreen that seems like it should exist but rarely does. The vitamin C derivative also has strong antioxidant properties, which similarly helps with damage recovery from UV exposure. You often see tone-up sunscreens in pink, right? But this one is a tone-up in blue. For people who really want to look ultra-fair, blue really enhances translucency. It's a bluish white. When you apply it, it's still white, but it makes your skin look genuinely brighter/fairer. It's smooth, non-sticky, and the blue really cancels out dullness. Plus it has SPF50 PA++++, so I think it's excellent. The brand also states it can be used as a substitute for emulsion, so it offers moisturizing benefits in place of an emulsion while also providing sun protection—truly living up to Naris Cosmetics' reputation. So, what did you think? Don't you think there are quite a few products here that would be a shame to dismiss just because they're 'only sold at drugstores'? If there's a great private brand product at a drugstore near you that you'd like me to review and explain, please feel free to leave a comment. Thank you so much for watching until the end today. I'll see you in the next video. Goodbye!
