A while back I did a special feature on hand creams, but since then I kept looking at various ones and found more products with "wow, this is amazing" ingredients packed in. These aren't just ordinary hand creams — they contain ingredient levels you'd expect in a facial serum or skincare product. I want to introduce each one to you. Now, let's get into today's main topic. 【1】The Retino Time Wrinkle Hand Cream (Medicated Wrinkle-Improving Hand Cream) "The Retino Time" is an original brand from Matsumoto Kiyoshi, which also has a skincare line. I love skincare and often feature it on this channel, but I was surprised to find they'd released a hand cream too. As the label "medicated wrinkle improvement" suggests, this is a quasi-drug containing an active ingredient recognized for wrinkle improvement: niacinamide. Niacinamide is a very versatile ingredient that works on both the epidermis and the dermis. In the dermis, it promotes collagen and elastin production while suppressing their breakdown, plumping the skin from within to improve wrinkles. It also has a whitening effect by suppressing melanin production triggered by UV exposure via melanocytes, and it boosts moisture levels in the epidermis — helping improve dryness-related wrinkles as well. Another thing that impressed me was a moisturizing ingredient called "Retino CPX." This is a complex of retinyl palmitate and centella asiatica (tsubokusa) extract. Retinyl palmitate is a gentler form of vitamin A. While pure retinol is powerful but can cause irritation (the so-called "retinol reaction"), this derivative doesn't work instantly but with continued use gradually increases skin moisture, leaving it plump and glowing. I often incorporate this in my own skincare routine, so I was surprised to see it in a hand cream. Centella asiatica extract is known as the "Cica" ingredient, extracted from the centella asiatica plant. It's well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, helping calm skin irritation. So this cream plumps the skin with retinyl palmitate while also soothing rough hands — a wonderful combination. It also contains hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, providing plenty of moisture. This product leans more toward anti-aging rather than treating rough, damaged hands. Since hands often show plumpness and dryness that reveal age, this "Retino Time Wrinkle Hand Cream" is great for anti-aging purposes. 【2】Rosafe Medicated Wrinkle Clear Hand (Medicated Wrinkle-Improving & Whitening Hand Cream) This is also a quasi-drug containing active ingredients for wrinkle improvement and whitening. Interestingly, just like the Retino Time cream, it also contains niacinamide. Niacinamide has a long research history, giving it a strong track record for both whitening and wrinkle-improving effects. It also improves the skin's barrier function, making it perhaps the most well-suited active ingredient for hand creams — something I really noticed comparing both the Retino Time and this Rosafe cream. Another great point is the inclusion of urea. Urea draws in moisture and is especially effective for hands, which lose moisture easily due to housework and water exposure. When the skin's outer layer (stratum corneum) hardens, active ingredients have trouble penetrating, making it difficult to improve rough skin. Urea softens the stratum corneum, allowing moisture to penetrate more easily — a crucial step. This product combines urea and niacinamide, softening the outer skin layer while boosting moisture and enhancing barrier function. It also contains ceramides, helping with dryness and rough texture. Additionally, it includes a fast-acting vitamin C derivative (ascorbyl glucoside) for whitening. This is ideal for those whose hands have become hardened, resulting in a darker or duller appearance. This cream also offers sun protection with SPF32 and PA+++. For people who spend a lot of time outdoors, this helps prevent age spots on the back of the hands, which can be difficult to remove even with laser treatment. For these reasons, I recommend Rosafe's Medicated Wrinkle Clear Hand cream. 【3】Curel HD Moisture Hand Cream This is also a quasi-drug with proven efficacy. It contains dipotassium glycyrrhizate, an active ingredient that prevents skin roughness. While the first two products focus more on anti-aging, wrinkle improvement, and whitening (almost skincare-level), this one is specifically for those concerned about dry hands. Hands naturally have few sebaceous glands, making them prone to dryness, and once damaged, their repair function is weaker. That's why it's important to prevent roughness before it starts by applying moisturizing ingredients to form a protective barrier. When skin starts to show early signs of irritation, anti-inflammatory ingredients help prevent it from worsening. Another key ingredient is heparinoid (heparin-like substance), which is used as a moisturizer even in medical settings. While the concentration here isn't as high as medical-grade products, it's still a sufficient amount for effective moisturizing. If your hands aren't quite cracked or split but feel dry, itchy, or in need of deep moisture, this cream — which soothes inflammation while heparinoid draws in moisture — is excellent. What's great about Curel is that, being made by a cosmetics company, the texture blends smoothly into the skin. Sticky hand creams can be annoying when using your phone, for example, so this is a great option for anyone who wants the benefits of heparinoid without the stickiness. Lately, many hand creams contain active ingredients on par with skincare products, but among them, the three I introduced today truly stand out.
