I always watch your videos. I've relocated to Okinawa for work, and I'm wondering if it's possible to maintain fair skin while doing UV protection under the strong sunlight there?
Yes, it's possible. Please make sure to thoroughly block sunlight. In Okinawa, the first things people buy are sunglasses and hats. Since it's a car-dependent society, when you buy a car, make sure to get UV film installed - both on the front and side windows. People also wear arm covers while driving. But of course, please apply sunscreen too.
Good evening. I always reference your skincare advice. I've managed to apply sunscreen well on my face, but for years I haven't been able to whiten the tan on my neck. Besides moisturizing and applying sunscreen cream, is there anything else I should be careful about?
Simply put, you should do the same things you do for your face. Whitening serums, for instance - I personally use the same whitening serums on my face all the way down to around here (the neck), so I think that would be the best approach. This year there are especially many neck creams and other targeted products. Also, using affordable products generously and applying whitening products liberally to the neck area would be good too.
My husband, who was undergoing hair loss treatment, has started growing body hair gradually. If possible, could you please give him a word of encouragement? So, good luck! If body hair is growing back, I think the hair on his head is probably growing too. At Dr. Tomori's clinic, they've been prescribing an original medication for male pattern baldness for a long time - it's been more than 10 years since I started working there, and it's been available since I first started. At first I honestly wasn't sure if it would work, but it really does work. The characteristic pattern when hair starts growing is that it tends to grow from the eyelashes and body hair first. So many people report things like "my arm hair started growing back," so the fact that body hair is growing is a good sign, I think.
Does powder-type sunscreen lose effectiveness more easily compared to cream-type?
Yes, I think so. Whether it's cream or powder type, you need to apply the same amount to get the stated SPF. The measurement method is the same - as I've mentioned many times, SPF is based on applying a certain number of milligrams per square centimeter. In that sense, it's quite difficult to achieve that with powder, so considering this, even with the same SPF rating, the amount actually applied ends up being much less with powder types. That's why some foundations have SPF written on them, but that should be considered supplementary. Powder type should be understood as a touch-up on top of a proper sunscreen base already applied.
Good evening. Your skin looks radiant again today, giving off such a great aura. Skin really is important. I have a question - I want to try retinol. I think my skin might be somewhat sensitive. I'd like to know your recommended beginner products, how to step up the concentration afterward, and recommended products for each stage.
In that case, why not try retinyl palmitate instead of retinol? If you can go to a clinic, Environ offers products you can step up through. For retinol, if you can handle sensitive skin products, La Roche-Posay has retinol-containing products too. For over-the-counter Japanese products, for example, Excel's products are relatively mild. I'd suggest first trying products labeled for eye area use on your eyes, and if that goes well, gradually move to using it on your whole face as a way to step up.
Good evening, and thank you for your hard work. For scalp shampoo, is it better to use a separate conditioner rather than a rinse-in type? I'm planning to make demi-glace on my next day off. Thank you for watching the demi-glace video - I'm glad you enjoyed the video about beautiful skin and stress reduction, and the demi-glace sauce recipe for glowing skin. If anyone hasn't seen the demi-glace sauce video yet, please do check it out.
Regarding whether it's better to use a separate conditioner rather than rinse-in type shampoo for scalp care - I think it depends on hair length. Many people think rinse and conditioner are the same thing, but rinse is more about improving hair's smoothness, making it silky. Conditioner is more about repair, roughly speaking. So if you have short hair, rinse-in should be fine, but for those like myself and many women who have longer hair, if your hair is damaged and needs repair, I'd recommend using a separate conditioner.
Good evening. Your blue-toned lipstick looks great with your red outfit. Thank you! I originally had acne-prone skin that improved when I turned 20. My oily skin changed to what feels like rough, uneven texture with overall roughness and dryness concerns. I'm still 20 but I'm noticing fine crepe-like wrinkles and I'm concerned about them. What ingredients should I look for in skincare products? Also, I have redness in my skin, probably.
Since this is oily skin, it's probably not quite rosacea, but there is redness present. For acne-prone skin, you don't need oil-based moisturizing, but you do need proper water-based hydration. So I think that kind of moisturizing would be good. But the issue with moisturizing is that products often contain oil-based ingredients. Since there's also redness, first make sure to properly cleanse to remove excess sebum, then follow up with ingredients like ceramide or hyaluronic acid that don't contain oils. For controlling acne-prone skin, I think incorporating Vitamin C would be good - specifically pure Vitamin C, so I'd recommend something like Spa Treatment's L'Antillais C Serum.
As for redness, please wait a moment - I do know of a good product for redness. Many people have asked me about products for redness, so I did quite a search. If I had to name one product that specifically addresses redness, I found something - it's Dr. Ci:Labo's Red Face Toner. This is specifically targeted at reducing redness - it probably can't be translated literally, but it's called "Red Toner" and contains ingredients that help prevent redness. It contains something called RedOut, which is a plant extract, along with Vitamin K. It also contains apricot oil and similar ingredients meant to control redness. I think this could work well - though I just found and purchased this recently myself, as you can see, so this is still new to me. But for redness specifically, this is a product I found available commercially, so I hope it's helpful as a reference.
Good evening. I'm concerned about expression lines under my eyes. I got Botox but I'm not feeling much effect, so I'm currently considering baby collagen. What treatments would you recommend for expression lines under the eyes?
Regarding the lines that appear under the eyes when smiling - honestly, this is difficult. Why? Because you can't inject Botox under the eyes. The bag-like appearance that forms under the eyes when smiling is an unavoidable expression as part of being human, so to speak. This is an area where eye care is important. For myself, since this always happens when I smile, I apply Pola's Wrinkle Shot daily here to prevent it from becoming permanent. Additionally, I apply Elixir around this area. So it's kind of a mix - Pola, Shiseido, Pola, Shiseido - combining retinol and Nile One [Niru Wan]. So it's more about skincare rather than treatments. I think this approach works well for these lines that appear when smiling like this. In these cases, I basically don't get Botox.
I currently have a blister forming near my mouth. After researching, I think it might be herpes, so I made an appointment, but there's a gap until my examination date. Is there anything I should be careful about or any recommended skincare methods until then?
I think this is likely oral herpes. First, don't pop the blister yourself. Also, if it feels tingly or irritated, avoid applying lipstick or similar products. Otherwise, your normal routine should be fine. Please make sure to go to the hospital soon.
I have a consultation question. I changed my entire skincare line for the first time in 2 years. About 3 days after starting to use it, I started experiencing skin peeling and roughness on my face. Should I consider this as the skincare not suiting me and go back to my old products? Or could this be considered a purging/detox reaction? Since I had been using the same products for so long, I'm feeling anxious about this.
Actually, I just recorded a video about this "kōten hannō" (positive/detox reaction) concept last week. I'll go into detail in that video, but to start with the conclusion: this kind of detox reaction is basically not something that happens with skincare products. So if you're experiencing itching or roughness, I think it would be best to go back to your previous products.
